I did my first ever run today , but just wanted to ask , all I could do at 60 second run was literally shuffle , Barely more than the brisk walk ! Is this ok? I’m 2 stone overweight and very unfit . Thanks

Welcome. This plan isn’t about pace... it’s about getting to 30 minutes of non stop running. All running is is having both feet off the ground, no matter how briefly, on every stride. So, what you did is not only ok... it’s pretty much perfect. Slower running will develop your muscles, condition them better and improve fitness sooner than going to fast.

Great job on run 1... you can do this. Enjoy your journey,

Thank you , that’s really helpful , I like the description of you saying it’s having both feet off the ground ! That’s all I did - very slow !

Cool... pace is for later... certainly after this plan... maybe even never, that will be your call. For now just relax and have fun on the journey to being a runner.

Well done MHPr - sounds as though you've spontaneously invented the Japanese Slow Running technique. See if you fancy this: youtube.com/watch?v=9L2b2kh...

It suits a lot of us really well.

That is so so interesting seaside 22. That’s exactly how I was “running “ as I couldn’t manage anything else . Thanks for making me feel better about it !

Lots of us run this way. Reduces injury and makes longer times and distances manageable (eventually). It’s a great technique. 😄

Thank you for taking time to reassure me it’s ok , much appreciated. 😁

Still lapping those on the couch! Well done you :) it all starts with that first one!! I’ve just joined this forum today but I joined my local running club a few weeks ago after completing my first 5k race for life last month. I did it but I walked 2/3 of it and I really enjoyed it so I took steps to educate myself on how to begin to run properly. Need to shed a few unwanted pounds in the meantime too. Keep it going :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Hi, never ever worry about what pace you think you’re going! You’re doing this for you and it doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing or thinking.😊 You’ve taken a great step forward just by getting out there. We all felt the same when we first started, believe me. Just do your thing, and keep coming back here if you need support or encouragement - you’ll get it and there are loads of people here who’ve been in your position.

Above all, don’t worry about anything and believe in yourself- you can do this! Good luck 🙂👍

I’m still not much faster after graduating - it’s good for fat burning, slow running.

A gentle jog will get you there.

It’s enough.

You did it.

You did better than my first attempt two years ago, when I had to do a pre programme week of jogging for thirty seconds!!

You’re doing fine 😁👏👏👏👏👏🏃‍♀️💪

Thank you , I think I’ll be a gentle shuffler /jogger for the foreseeable future !

Well done for starting...that's the hardest part.

Pace isn't important, as everyone has said. Just getting out there and doing it is what counts.

Stick around the forum, it's great for motivation and support

It's absolutely fine. My first run week 1 I thought I was going to die of a heart attack, I was purple, and panting like a dog. Persevere and you will see that what seems today absolutely unfeasible will soon become feasible. And if you have to repeat a run or a week, just do so. It's your body, your journey.

Thank you , I may just do week one again probably , I’m so unfit

Well done on starting, you’re doing brilliant. I’m week one and did 2nd run today, it’s such hard work but this time was definitely easier. I don’t worry about the little steps I jog, it’s better to do it slow and build up :)

do google `japanese slow jogging`...it is the secret to completeing the plan injury free.
