Just got back from my first non-Parkrun 5k run! It was difficult, as it was so warm, and I’m knackered now, but I did it! I was a lot slower than Parkrun, but I was running over a track, which was very uneven in places.
The black faced sheep looked at us as if we were aliens from outer space, and the beautiful black calf in the next field got all excited and started running and jumping around beside us.
In places, there was a thick shelter belt of trees, which afforded some welcome shade. The rest of the run was in full sun, which, although was starting to sink lower in the sky, was still very powerful.
When we reached our starting place where we’d left our water bottles, I still hadn’t reached 5k, so continued to run along the back street of the village, until the nice lady in MapMyRun told me that I’d done the required distance. Rather interestingly, moments before she spoke up, I had altered my posture, and was running more upright with my bum really tucked in. (This was in response to the music that I was listening to). This enabled me to speed up, and I had started to go faster but with the same effort as before. I was a little disappointed when I had to stop. Oh well, I’ll know for next time. I always do try to run very upright, but when I get tired, I tend to tip forward, which results in inefficient running.
Anyway, I can’t run again this week until Saturday, so hopefully I’ll be fully refreshed by then. I think I may have said goodbye to running for thirty minutes, unless something changes. I like the idea of running complete kilometres, so 5k it’ll have to be for now! 😁

Actually the lyrics were interesting, in that he was saying “nothing left to say”, and it was all about giving up, but the chords and melody really moved me. I also twisted the words to mean that I was giving up feeling like I wanted to give up. 😉 The album is Night Visions by Imagine Dragons. Great for running! 😁
Nice one! Well done! Isn't it lovely to be able to run with the animals 🐏 Just be careful that little calf doesn't jump over the wall to chase you 🐮 xx
I think we probably all do, I just want to do more all the time, went on beach this evening and offered to start again with grandson as he wishes he could run as long as i can
He’s an unusual lad it’s good though to have teenage grands to have fun with we were playing ball with the dog last night until it got too dark to see the ball at low tide it’s a great place to run around with a dog and youngsters
My little one (only 4) loves park run, meets his friends there. Great to see them so enthusiastic about running. He run/walks the 2 K and then runs around playing afterwards like it was nothing. Sleeps well in Sundays!
That’s exactly what I did! I ran on Formby beach. It was glorious. Then in the evening did the W1R1 with my son. He’s fast so it was a work out rather than a walk in the park!
The young are fast mine tried it before though and found running for a minute at his pace too much so has said he’d like to build it up and get fitter he’s 14
That’s super impressive - this is so addictive! After my first 5k parkrun ever on Saturday, I ran 4K yesterday as feel that my usual 3/3.5 is now not acceptable - so funny aren’t we? Also, I tip forward as tiredness takes over, so will tuck bum in and tidy my posture up as that happens. Well done!!
Good run for you, you enjoyed that run, that is the main thing, after Laura on C25K you said there was also a nice lady on Mapmyrun, well I have MMR on my Phone as well, that nice 'lady' is Alexa, I think she is actually a computerised voice developed by some hi-tech Internet firm, I think Amazon Echo
Sorry if I've missed it in the ream of replies... but how long did it take you?
Congratulations btw... well done! I am only doing 5km about once or twice a month, and I'm still recovering from my 38 minute (PB) due to achilles strain : ( and I'm very frustrated not being able to walk with out pain at the mo.... might even dust my bike off...
But what I'm trying to say is varying distance and speed is important to build strength and protect from injury - I'm finding out the hard way - so be careful!
It took me 46 minutes. My pace is really slow! However, I am faster at Parkrun, as the surfaces are a lot easier. I try to sprint towards the finish line, but that’s about it. I’m not aiming to increase speed and distance simultaneously! 😱 I owe your leg gets better quickly. 😊
