Hello guys!

I am a new member on here so just wanted to introduce myself. I am Becky, Iโ€™m 36 years old, the mum of a teenager ๐Ÿ™ˆand a full-time primary school teacher currently enjoying the first week of the summer hols.

I have previously started C25K when I was fitter and lighter in weight and I think I got as far as Week 6 ๐Ÿค”. This time, I have just completed Week 1, finishing the first run this morning.

I am actually quite worried as Iโ€™m finding it so much harder this time around and not sure if I should repeat Week 1 next week so any advice would be appreciated! I should say that I completed the first two runs on the treadmill with air con but then thought I should try running in our hillier local park this morning. Needless to say, I found it so much harder today, not sure if it was due to the heat, the hills or the embarrassment of having to โ€˜runโ€™ past all the dog walkers!

Hi Becky! Well done for starting again even after a tiring school year and with a teenager! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Iโ€™d say just follow the programme. Youโ€™re bound to find it tough in the heat AND with hills, but the programme is so clever with its build up. I found a nice flat route and I run early morning so itโ€™s not too hot.

Enjoy the programme, and post on here often, Iโ€™ve been so helped by the encouragement on here! And read the pinned post for newbie tips ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Thanks for the reply Jazzyrunner ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ. Iโ€™m thinking that I might stick to running on the treadmill at the gym for now in order to combat the heat and hills. If I feel more confident, I can always increase the incline a little. I will check out the newbie tips now, cheers!

My next run is Friday so I will update on how I get on then.

Welcome to the forum, Becky!

I expect itโ€™s just the heat making it tougher. Just remember to drink plenty of water every day, not just on run days, and run at cooler times if you can.

Hi Stephen_UK, thanks for your reply ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ. I am drinking a lot of squash but will keep my eye on it and will definitely avoid running in that heat again! Itโ€™s air con all the way for me now!

Well done for getting started, running outside at the moment is hard for a lot of us due to the heat . If you find the treadmill better just go with it and on the cooler days get outside . Good luck ๐Ÿ˜Š

Becky, welcome back! Iโ€™m starting W6 on Friday. Iโ€™d use the Six Weeks Holidays to get out there early as once youโ€™re back at work itโ€™s a struggle if youโ€™ve a long commute - might sound extreme (and it would to me a few weeks back!) but getting out around 0600hrs works best for me.

Also no pressure Iโ€™d suggest whether you repeat a week or not, ultimately itโ€™s about getting you up to a level using the programme so do what you feel is best.

Terrain is an issue, Iโ€™m lucky that itโ€™s flat where we live but if youโ€™re in a hilly part of the country would add to the challenge....donโ€™t know if thatโ€™s a good or bad thing?!

Anyway keep reading and posting plus of course keep running!

Hi Becky, just think that by the time you go back to work youโ€™ll have nearly finished the programme!! Itโ€™s great it really works. Iโ€™ve just done my first park run ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜Š

Itโ€™s hard in the heat but keep at it - run early or late, but a lightweight running cap, hydrate plenty the day before running and slow down and slow down again!

Well done and keep going! I walk my dogs every day and I donโ€™t notice the runners, and when itโ€™s my run day I donโ€™t notice them. Try and find a local sports centre with a running track. Iโ€™m new too, and a HLTA, so on my 6 week break as well. And Iโ€™ve got a 17 year old daughter! Iโ€™ve just done the week 1 run for the 4th time and feel so much better today than I did after the first 3 goes, so repeating was the right choice for me. I feel ready to move on now and Iโ€™m really unfit! Also on a treadmill, not brave enough to venture outside yet!
