I am a new member on here so just wanted to introduce myself. I am Becky, Iโm 36 years old, the mum of a teenager ๐and a full-time primary school teacher currently enjoying the first week of the summer hols.
I have previously started C25K when I was fitter and lighter in weight and I think I got as far as Week 6 ๐ค. This time, I have just completed Week 1, finishing the first run this morning.
I am actually quite worried as Iโm finding it so much harder this time around and not sure if I should repeat Week 1 next week so any advice would be appreciated! I should say that I completed the first two runs on the treadmill with air con but then thought I should try running in our hillier local park this morning. Needless to say, I found it so much harder today, not sure if it was due to the heat, the hills or the embarrassment of having to โrunโ past all the dog walkers!

Iโd say just follow the programme. Youโre bound to find it tough in the heat AND with hills, but the programme is so clever with its build up. I found a nice flat route and I run early morning so itโs not too hot.
Enjoy the programme, and post on here often, Iโve been so helped by the encouragement on here! And read the pinned post for newbie tips ๐๐ป
Thanks for the reply Jazzyrunner ๐๐ผ. Iโm thinking that I might stick to running on the treadmill at the gym for now in order to combat the heat and hills. If I feel more confident, I can always increase the incline a little. I will check out the newbie tips now, cheers!
My next run is Friday so I will update on how I get on then.
I expect itโs just the heat making it tougher. Just remember to drink plenty of water every day, not just on run days, and run at cooler times if you can.
Hi Stephen_UK, thanks for your reply ๐๐ผ. I am drinking a lot of squash but will keep my eye on it and will definitely avoid running in that heat again! Itโs air con all the way for me now!
Well done for getting started, running outside at the moment is hard for a lot of us due to the heat . If you find the treadmill better just go with it and on the cooler days get outside . Good luck ๐
Becky, welcome back! Iโm starting W6 on Friday. Iโd use the Six Weeks Holidays to get out there early as once youโre back at work itโs a struggle if youโve a long commute - might sound extreme (and it would to me a few weeks back!) but getting out around 0600hrs works best for me.
Also no pressure Iโd suggest whether you repeat a week or not, ultimately itโs about getting you up to a level using the programme so do what you feel is best.
Terrain is an issue, Iโm lucky that itโs flat where we live but if youโre in a hilly part of the country would add to the challenge....donโt know if thatโs a good or bad thing?!
Anyway keep reading and posting plus of course keep running!

Itโs hard in the heat but keep at it - run early or late, but a lightweight running cap, hydrate plenty the day before running and slow down and slow down again!
Well done and keep going! I walk my dogs every day and I donโt notice the runners, and when itโs my run day I donโt notice them. Try and find a local sports centre with a running track. Iโm new too, and a HLTA, so on my 6 week break as well. And Iโve got a 17 year old daughter! Iโve just done the week 1 run for the 4th time and feel so much better today than I did after the first 3 goes, so repeating was the right choice for me. I feel ready to move on now and Iโm really unfit! Also on a treadmill, not brave enough to venture outside yet!
