I am an old runner that keeps stopping and wishing i had not. having done the couch to 5 KM 18 months ago i could not kick on. i struggled with various injury's over the years i seem to get 10 weeks in and break down.
So i have put the word out i want to run a marathon when i am 60 ( 2 & bit years to go) I have picked my Marathon , and i now need to start like a new runner again.
So September the 1st will be my start date. Park Run Jan 2020 10 km race July 2020
1/2 Marathon July 2021 and see what i need from there.
as an ex racer it looks easy on paper , but any one want to prod and poke me to see where i am that will be great.
reason for Sept Start , work and weather.

Old??? You young whippersnapper, watch your language! My other half had the same problem as you, finally decided that maybe he had been trying to push on too far too fast, and took it a bit easier. Tried very hard to care less about getting pb's every time he ran, and touch wood it's working for him this time around. I don't know if this applies to you of course, but just sayin' 😉
well i could spout of some good personal bests, sand that's whats held me back for years.
having run 3 marathon's London 1991 1995 1997 i have made the step and said no raising money and no breaking any time , have a holiday and run a marathon for myself. definitely like your other half. looking forward to getting back in to it
Got to say that sounds like you have got a really good approach for this. I only started running 15 months ago, so no marathons to my name, and none planned, so I'm coming at this running lark from a completely different angle - every run I do is an achievement and a source of wonder! I do have rellies who have done it (my niece ran the London marathon this year, one proud auntie here!) You know what's involved, you've achieved so much, so yes do this one for you, and we'll be here to cheer you on.
