Happy St Swithin's Day everyone...:)

It is very, very warm and sunny here and I really hope it does not rain on anyone for forty days!!!!

Well...here we are again... week 3 of July... and the weather might be getting a tad warmer:)

I start this week feeling much happier as yesterday, I managed my longest run since climbing off the IC! Yeayayayay!

Those runs, they always wait for us... :)

The number of folk on the forum increases daily...( the numbers are truly frightening), and although it is tricky to keep up with everyone's progress... it is great to have a little fun post, so we can see who is on which week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

I apologise if I miss posts or replies, as there really are a lot of us!

We can support, encourage and generally help each other, in a positive and friendly way, with no thought of comparison.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

If you have just Graduated, also, this will be a great place to keep you motivated, and the new Quest on here too...pleas do take a look and join in!

One of the best things about this weekly chat is that you can talk to each other, support and encourage each other and find folk on the same week or run as you.

So, please do come and join the fun...slip off your running shoes, and just let us know how it is going :)

Oldfloss x

PS

Leave your umbrellas outside please :) xx

So glad your running return is going well 😊

Should have done W3R1 today but my knee is feeling niggly so I’m having an extra day’s rest and will run tomorrow. I think I’ll get some proper running shoes soon and hope that might help the knee. In the meantime, slooooow running and kissing the ground with my feet!

Enjoy the fine weather!

OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toJazzyrunner

Thanks :) You take it steady and rest as much as you need to... have you been doing any knee exercises?

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate in reply toOldfloss

I have done some, but I’m a bit wary as if it’s recreating the movement that makes it hurt, I’m worried it’ll just put more stress on it. I’m probably just being a drama queen. I’ll see how the next couple of runs go, and if it gets worse, I’ll probably have to see what the GP says 😬😳🤯

Best get checked out..and a sports physio would probably be your best bet x

This is my second time round too - after an injury stopped me for around 18 months.

It's a good feeling, isn't it!

Just completed week 7. Taking lots of rest days to develop strength work. Read some new tips and advice on here every day. Thankyou

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toLUHAN

Just super... the non impact work on some of your rest days really needs to be upped as the runs get longer. Many folk neglect them and wonder why they find the runs hard....

The runs now are perfect for your newly forming legs to find their happy pace... relax and enjoy!

Did w7r2 yesterday. I haven't run for a week as I was feeling awful with flu. Surprised to learn that it was the easiest... Hopefully not more setbacks and I can graduate soon!

I am glad you felt well enough to run...Relax into the longer runs... perfect for slow and steady... Make sure that you do up your strength and stamina work too on some of your rest days...it is so important with the longer runs coming up:)

Well done you!_

in reply toOldfloss

Which stamina/strength do you recommend? I am 42, I rather do at home as I have two kids to look after. Thank you!

Look at our strength and flex site... all can be done at home..There are lots of options..too... e.g.

Hi Oldfloss. Just done W6R1. Was just a bit tougher and longer than thought but I see the total time is the longest thus far. Plus my extra add on of 2 mins - its my nature if too hard I wouldn't do it 🙂

Huge well done.. relax into the longer runs now... let the newly forming legs find their happy pace:)

Hello all

I’m on my last run of C25K today and I still can’t quite believe that I’m able to run for more than a minute!

I’ve had real reasons to not run and plenty of imagined ones too but I’ve nearly done it!

Like many others, I’ve run in rain, sunshine, wind and hail, but my best achievement has to be my dedication and determination to continue this journey whilst abroad with my husband celebrating our ruby wedding. I am not a morning person; I got up, whilst on holiday, at 06.30 in 28C heat and ran week 8!

Determined to get my certificate and have even peeped at bridge to 10k - eek!

Happy running all x

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toPeanutnanna

Massive well done you!!! You are heading for that podium and beyond!

Hello Oldfloss, I did it, I’ve completed W9R3! How do I get my badge? 🏆🥇🤣

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toPeanutnanna

Click on the pinned post.mJuly Graduation Badges..x Congratulations!!!

Tomorrow I start week 2 with the first run! I am quite worried as my first week lasted more like 2 weeks so tomorrow will be tough. Has anyone had any experience with not running as regularly as recommended? Should I repeat a run from week one tomorrow instead?

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to

People run to suit work and lifestyle...if you take the runs slowly and steadily you should be just fine:) If you are struggling, then just slow down a little more:)

Cherrycheesecake profile image
Cherrycheesecake in reply to

It sounds like you might be running too fast to be starting. If you are not sure about going into week 2, I would run week 1 again and go slower and see how or if that helps. No one is under pressure to go fast so go at a comfortable speed for you. I found as the weeks went on, my speed picked up gradually as I was more comfortable with it. Hope this helps.

in reply toCherrycheesecake

that’s great advice, thank you!

Hi, I often can't get out as much as 3 or 4 times a week. In the beginning work was so busy it would sometimes just be once a week. You should be fine to carry on with the next run. See how you go, if you can't quite manage it this time, try again next time. Remember there's no time limit on completing C25k, that's the beauty of it! But watch out, because once you get to a certain point you'll want to keep running! 😁

in reply toFatgirlslim19

I did manage to do it! But I might suffer the consequences tomorrow (already feeling stiff)

Fatgirlslim19 profile image
Fatgirlslim19Graduate in reply to

Well done, and in this heat too! You might feel it a bit tomorrow, but that's ok. Plenty of hydration and the rest day will sort you out

It's week 3 for me, I did my first run this morning and ouch! Pushing up to 3 mins from 90 seconds really hurt but I got through it and am hopeful it won't feel so bad on Friday when I do run 2!

I'm still amazed that I'm doing this, but I'm really enjoying it which is surreal! 😃

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toChoosingHappy

Relax...keep it slow and steady... and just keep on enjoying!

ChoosingHappy profile image
ChoosingHappyGraduate in reply toOldfloss

Thanks! Yes I'm always telling myself to be slower, which really doesn't compute with running in my head!

Week 8 day 3 and looking forward to starting week 9. This is my second time around from beginning to end as I injured my foot just after completing the course. I was worried about running a long time on it so decided to start from scratch again and have not regretted that decision. Onward and upward into Bridge to 10k.

Hi Oldfloss, thanks for hosting! Bit busy this week with work which is nice in a way, but means I can't get out to run until Friday evening or early Saturday morning (boo!) I did a nice 30 minutes last Wednesday and a quick 10 mins on Friday evening, so I'm missing it!

I do need to do a quick trip out on my bike though to check if it's working properly again, so am off in a moment to test that. Food wise I'm craving carbs and sugar like a mad thing which is a bit testing! And seeing as I'm not even running I can't justify even a small blip 😁
