Week 7 Run 1, 1st ever Parkrun

Yippee! Three cheers for me, I actually ran 5k! It wasn’t fast and it wasn’t pretty but I ran the whole way. Set Sarah up to talk me through my Week 7 run 1 until I got to the end of that. Then once she told me I could stop and walk I basically thought “right, the pressure is off now I’ll keep running until I feel that I need to walk and then I will walk the rest”. But I managed to keep running all the way to the end. Feeling so pleased now. This was my first ever Parkrun, and the first time I have ever run 5k, came in around 50 minutes. The Parkrun people were lovely and I made a new friend who really encouraged me on the last stretch meaning I came on much stronger for the last bit than I expected and had a personal best for my 2 mile time. On such a high now.

Many congratulations on your first 5k and glad you enjoyed parkrun................but, we recommend that if you are doing parkrun part way through the plan, that you stick to your C25K programmed workout and walk the remainder.

This is to avoid being tempted to do too much too soon. We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without an increased risk of injury........which is why training plans, such as C25K, are gently progressive. You have just hugely exceeded the 10% rule used by experienced runners to safely increase their weekly training load.

Well done, but I hope you don't suffer for it. Better to stick to the plan.

Ps - parkrun is for everyone, no rules on how you do it, you do what you want to, if you want to walk it, walk it, run, skip, hula hoop (some do), your parkrun, your way 🏃‍♀️👏

Well done you. I am a new graduate of C25K but have completed all but 1 run on a treadmill. I have run twice outside once for 30 minutes. I would love to do park run and you have given me the inspiration to give it a go.

It is definitely worth it. My only advice is don't let running with others lull you into going too fast. Just find your comfortable pace and go with it. No matter what happens, you can't come last as that is an official duty of one of the volunteers.
