Oh no! W9 next and on IC!! Help please - Anyone recognise this injury?

Can anyone from the forum help explain what the sudden lump is on the top of my foot? It is slightly hard and a little painful to touch, but not causing me a problem when I walk. I last ran yesterday and noticed it this evening after being on my feet all day. I'm doing the RICE thing. Just wondered if it was a common injury and familiar to anyone. Is it okay to run on it if it's not causing too much of a problem? It couldn't have come at a worse time - week 9 next!

Sorry for the photo, but thought it might help - I'm not in the habit of posting pictures of bits of me on the internet!!

I would see your doctor just so you know what it is. But I’ve seen this before it could be a ganglion but better to get medical advice 😉

Ganglion - my hubby once had one of those on the back of his hand at his wrist. Our son (aged 3 at the time) hit it with a toy hammer out of the lets-pretend doctor's bag and it disappeared!! He's 14 now, maybe I should get him to try it again?!

Thanks Kevtrev.

No problems I just hope it is one of them and if not you’re going to jump out of your skin lol but it very well could be a ganglion 😉

I had one on the inside of my wrist, my husband gave me a glass of wine, held my hand and without warning pressed his thumb right on it, the pain was excruciating, I almost fainted. Result though, no ganglion😖

Ooh! Ouch!! 🥺

These men have a lot to answer for!

Getting 14 year old to hit your foot with a hammer? I don't think so!

in reply toEvol

It was a toy hammer!! He's lovely, really and bringing me fresh ice for my foot as I type... Not at all bad as teenagers go!

Hi there Delly Dot it looks like a Ganglion to me, which is a fluid filled sac, should resolve on its own but can take time.

Thank you. I didn't know that you could get a ganglion there. I have a funny story about a ganglion - it's in the reply to Kevtrev above! Thanks for your help 😀

We are not medical professionals or experts here on C25K, however, we can advise runners if they have medical issues to refer them to their doctors if they are not sure whatever their problem is, to me the photo shows some sort of swelling, if it continues to swell and gets sore don't run and see a doctor, sorry about that happening on your final week of C25K.

Hi there I am a Nurse and I have seen this type of injury a few times, but of course it’s best to get it checked out to be sure.

in reply tosuebuzz

Thank you x

Do you know what could have caused it suebuzz? I've had gait analysis and have proper running shoes. Tight laces perhaps?

It could be - it can be trauma related where the tissue can become damaged causing the cyst. It could be a weak point in the tendon which had allowed the tendon fluid to leak out and accumulate. More common in women. It can be aspirated if necessary but it usually goes away on its own. The trauma is sometimes repetitive movements and indeed could be tight laces. But do get it checked as it may be something else. X

in reply tosuebuzz

I will go and get it checked next week. Thank you so much for your help x

PS - no hitting it with anything 😬

😂 okay! xx

in reply toAlMorr

Thank you AlMorr for your sound advice as always. I know the advice the forum shares is doctor first, but as it's Friday..... no doc till Monday probably!! So I thought I'd trust in the old sages on this forum to give me some ideas in the meantime. Consensus of opinion so far is a ganglion, and we've had some funny experiences of those courtesy of my son when he was 3 years old!! (See reply to Kevtrev).

I’ve got no idea but hope you recover soon and sure pharmacist may know if you couldn’t get to doctors.

Wrong timing for that to pop up and say hello 😤

in reply toRunRunRun13

Consensus is it’s a ganglion. I’m going to rest up this weekend and see how it goes. Definitely bad timing 🙄

Do please, get it checked out x

in reply toOldfloss

Hi Oldfloss. Thank you, I will. I'm resting it up as best I can this weekend - that means no running but I have loads of decorating to do!! 🙄 However, I am taking advantage of the situation this evening, my feet are up, and as I can't run tomorrow, I'm enjoying a glass of wine instead! Cheers 🥂 x
