Hi, I was halfway through the third week of Cto5K (and enjoying it!) but suddenly I had bad pain in my ankle and struggled to walk home. That was one week ago and the pain is still constant, walking is a struggle and there’s some minor swelling. I’ve never run before in my life and was going every other day so I don’t know if it was too much too soon. I’m not overweight, I bought some decent running trainers and stretched before and after each run. The pain is right on the ankle bone. Anyone got any idea what I’ve done and /or how I can fix it?!
Ankle injury- please help!: Hi, I was halfway... - Couch to 5K
Ankle injury- please help!
Make sure you rest it for a few days and follow the advice on here - don't run till it has calmed down - whatever it is. Fingers crossed it is just a twinge and not anything serious.
Sorry, I don’t know and even for a specialist I guess it would be tricky to diagnose without seeing it. I get ankle sprains sometimes (it ‘turns’ slightly and becomes tender and swells up)...for those I ice it, rest it, elevate it, wear a tubular bandage for support. But if it doesn’t improve maybe you should get it checked out... hope it’s a swift recovery for you...
Please go to your gp this happen to me and that was 14 weeks ago I find out tomorrow if I need surgery I have a chronic tear of the aftl I kept running on it

Ankles have relatively poor blood supply, so can take a while to recover.
I am in the same position as you and had to cut short a run yesterday because of an ankle playing up. I will rest and possibly cycle, which keeps joint mobile and improves blood flow without putting impact stresses on the area.
If it persists, then consult your GP or a physio.
Take care
