moving a drawing board yesterday I dropped a weight on my foot and its bruised and painful

any advice ?

Yes, rest it.  If you have some Epsom salts go for a 20 minute soak in the bath.  

Take a whole day off running and then see how it feels. Once the pain's gone you should be ok I would think.   Ice is a very good pain reliever and will help reduce swelling.  Play a lump of ice over your foot as often as you can.  Try and find time to sit and rest.  You could take some Ibufren or Neurofen last thing tonight before you go to sleep, if you feel you must.  Don't bother while you're in motion though as they only work when the body is at rest (according to my local chemist) 

We're not doctors obviously, so if your pain and discomfort doesn't clear up then seek professional help

Get some Arnica cream from Boots or local chemist and rub into the bruise. It will bring the bruise out quicker and heal quicker. If there is swelling which hasn't subsided within 24 hours I would get it seen by a medical professional.
