Week 1 done

So I have finished week one and it was so much harder today than the first 2 runs. I did it at a new location today and with my niece it certainly kicked my arse today. I also saw two dog walkers and two joggers and I didn't stop and turn the other way due to embarrassment. Also what do people wear I wore leggings tht kept falling down tht really started to annoyed me and just a tee and sketchers. X

Great news! And passing other people.. was it as bad as you thought it would be?

If your leggings are falling down, why not try one of those support vests under your t shirt to help hold them up? You can pick them up on eBay. That’s what I wear 😁

Well done for conquering one of your little demons AND for completing week one! 💪🏻

in reply toTeeBedders

No it was horrendously bad they just kind of smiled and carried on. Thank you I will look for one of those now

Do you mean wasn’t horrendously bad? 🙈😊 it always seems like it’s going to be worse and really, people don’t care. I’m sure if you’d have just been walking past in general they still would have given you the same smile and carried on. Again, well done on accomplishing a personal little milestone and doing it.😁 👍🏻

Well done on making that first leap and completing week 1. Keep at it and trust the pace of the programme.

I just wear something comfy, usually t-shirt and leggings. Might be worth getting tighter or stretchier leggings/trousers that don’t fall down, though! You don’t want to be distracted from your running worrying about your clothes!!

in reply toNewRunner4

Yes they were driving me crazy had to hold them up most of the time. I have gym leggings some where might try those

Maybe you also went a bit quicker as well doing it with your niece and in a different location. Keep it slow, conversation pace. Well done for.completing w1 you will look back on it and wonder how it seemed so difficult.

in reply toStevieplink

Yes possibly she's 14 and was keen to run as fast as she could

My son is 8 and a good runner already. He came out with me around w4 and couldnt decide whether to go.ahead and wait for me,or, let me go and catch up. In the end he contented himself with having fun copying my breathing.

Well done for completing wk one. I had same issue with my leggings today which was also my third run of week one.

Will look forward to hearing your progress

I got some cheap leggings from Decathlon, they are great, wash real easy and dry really quickly.

in reply tobackintime

These were crappy primark one's so tht may of been why but the other pairs I wore for my first 2 runs were also primark

Ditch the bad ones. They will never be good. 🤪

I got good running capris from Decathlon on sale - their own brand, designed for warm weather running, and they are excellent, like a second skin. Also there is a site called re-run which is like a used running goods exchange. Good value if they happen to have what you’re looking for.

So glad you braved the world and finished W1. 👏🏼🎉👏🏼

Well done. It really does get easier. Just keep the speed down. If you have a Lidl nearby keep an eye out as I got really good running leggings and a top for £5.99 each, pmy experienced runner friend recommended them as she's had hers for years!

in reply toBookbizlady

Ooh thanks. I go lidl very often so will keep an eye out.

Well done on your first week. I live in leggings but I quickly learned that i just could not run in my standard comfy black ones without them driving me mad and me constantly having to hoik them up all the time- even with a tight vest under my t shirt!

I highly recommend a proper pair of running leggings- wherever you choose them from , cheap or expensive and these tend to hold you more securely, be of a sweat wicking material and most importantly, the waist stays where it’s meant to!!

Well done for conquering week 1! That’s a big achievement 👏🏼 I too passed x2 dog walkers this morning on my run - I was beetroot faced and puffing away- I managed a “good morning” and a smile , they were both very encouraging and made me feel great 👍 . You must remember you are doing this for you, it doesn’t matter what you look like or what you think people think 🤔. You’ll soon grow in confidence- we’ll done and keep going . Awesome 👏🏼

We'll done you and keep going! Plenty of places to get cheap running leggings...Tesco, Primark, sports direct. If you have one of those designer outlet places anywhere near, they are great.

Well done on getting out there. I always seem to run faster past people for some reason. Get a good pair of running shoes......worth the spend and a good bra (if you are female)!

in reply toNovice1955

I am female but haven't been blessed by the tit fairy (tooth fairies younger sister) so don't really need a sports bra 😂😂

Congrats on completing week 1, fantastic feeling when you manage to stick with it isn't it 😁. I did my first run of week 2 yesterday, it was surprisingly ok after i took the advice of everyone and slowed down. I run on a treadmill at the gym now as i found the up and down of the pavements harder on my knees. I bought some pretty cheap running leggings from sports direct, well worth it by the sound of it, and i just run in them and a tshirt. Good luck with week 2, we can do it 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Well done for not giving up. It’s very important to get what you wear correct. Even for the early weeks as it can hinder you.

I run over my local common land just because I can avoid people and passing traffic, however when I pass dog walkers or other joggers I’m quite pleased if I’m all red faced and out of breath because hopefully they think I’ve done 10K and not a 5 min run 😂

Well done. I personally wear trackie bottoms, vest and baggy t shirt. The bottoms have a tie waist and minions on the leg lol but they are comfy and I'm not having any issue with thigh burn which worried me. People seemed to be everywhere on my wk2 run 1 yesterday, honestly don't they know to stay in when I'm puffing my lungs off and red faced, though I seem to be enjoying it. Mad.

Got some trackies today from lidls so hopefully they will not fall down. I also now have my sister and niece involved too 😂

Hi bigbird87, well, your replies look like they have come from some fellow ladies, just address the balance from us chaps. First and foremost well done for getting through week 1, just keep to the plan, I have my last week 2 run tonight. I got trussed up in Primark jogging bottoms and some donkeyes user old trainers but soon made the transition to shorts and a new pair of trainers for week 2 and getting on my local Parkrun...just enjoy the new you and the things you are doing for your health...you will be amazed how fitter you get even in a short time scale...well done keep going

Well done for getting through the hardest week. Don't worry about it feeling tough - it just happens sometimes (and then you'll get a fantastic run, again for no particular reason).

It takes a bit of experimentation to work out what to wear... when I start parkrun each week I never fail to be amazed at the variety of outfits. Personally, I get extremely warm so it tends to be shorts and a technical running top unless it's below freezing! :)
