I did W5R1 between Christmas and New Year and afterwards accidentally dropped out of the programme altogether.
Real life got in the way in a very big way and we had a lot of bad news in the first few months of 2019 which meant I was in no state mentally to chip away at running.
Now we're almost in June and after some discussion with friends, they encouraged me to start running again thinking it will be good for my mental health (and physical health since that has also been less of a priority in the past 5 months).
It's disheartening to have to start from scratch again but knowing I got so far the last time when I didn't think I could do it is encouraging. I did W1R1 last night and although I was tired after, it made me feel positive and proud.
I hope I can push through and finish this time.

I'm sorry to hear that 2019 hasn't been kind to you so far. That's great that you feel ready to start again. With any luck it might feel a bit easier this time as its not that long ago that you last ran.
Good luck with your journey. I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Thank you, Lindsey. It's definitely encouraging to know I reached where I did before as when I started initially I could never see myself running for 5 minutes at a time and knowing I'll be able to get there again helps. It's a wonderful programme.
Thank you - I did find before I had more energy and was sleeping better so I'm looking forward to that again!
Welcome back. Sorry that you’ve had a tough start to the year. Knowing you got so far last time must be encouraging. We are all here to cheer you on! 😊🏃♀️
Welcome back and well done for finding the motivation to move on with life. The older I get the more I see that painful things happen to us all. No one is exempt. It’s all about dealing with it and getting more resilient to bounce back from it. Will running help? I have a feeling it will, as it is something physical and real that you have to set out to do. Also, the sense of achievement boosts the adrenaline and feel good hormones! Go for it and I hope things are better for you right now. Something else I’ve learned is that bad times pass...
I definitely agree with you and thank you! It will give me some kind of regular routine to focus on and work towards and before when I was doing it I did feel good because I was getting those wonderful exercise endorphins people talk about.
It’ll be great for you! Well done on picking it up again ✔️ you’ll soon be feeling positive and have lots more energy. It’s great for both your mental health and physical health, so a no brained really. You’ll soon be where you left off last time 😊🏃♂️
Life does sometimes have a way of catching us by surprise and beating us around the head until we surrender.
It doesn’t matter one bit that you dropped out! S**t happens!
What matters is that you are having another go. Well done for coming back.
Just take it steady away, don’t push too hard too quickly and you’ll be fine. We are all here to help you.
And remember - the only failed run is the one you didn’t do - if you put the shoes on and leave the house it’s a win even if you have to turn around early.
Sorry to hear you’ve been going through tough times in 2019 EmmaDoesRunning. Total respect to you for getting the running back into your life. It’s an act of real care for your health - mental and physical. Maybe don’t force yourself into a “push” .... maybe just let the programme instructions sort of carry you forward. It does seem to have a special momentum. Sending you loads of good wishes for happier and more peaceful days very soon. Keep posting
