W1R1 - Starting all over again

I did this program years ago when I was younger and more fit and definitely way lighter. Over the last couple of years I gained a lot of weight, and I mean A LOT. But now, it's time to do something about it.

So I am back here, starting this journey from step 1. I completed W1R1 yesterday and damn it was hard on my shins and calves. My legs were like made of lead. I felt like a running elephant. No, wait. Elephants are actually excellent runners. So it was me like a running whale trying to move one leg after another.

I also had a company of my young lurcher dog, as the older one is now more about sniffing than any forward movement. Yes, I can relate to that. I'd rather stroll than march or jog. But here I am with my sight hound on a lead hoping to survive another step and just counting familiar trees and house corners closer and closer to my home.

Today I did some proper stretching and tomorrow my alarm clock will shout at me again at 5:30am to follow my dream, my vision, my plan of healthier and fitter version of myself.

We can do this!

Fantastic! That first run in a while is such a tough one. I felt like some sort of drunken octopus with no coordination between arms and legs when I did my first after a fall! It gets better. You’ll be surprised how you’ll soon be back in the swing of it. You’ve done it before and you’ll do it again.

Lurchers are such lovely dogs. Great to have a companion with you!

You might notice a few faces you recognise from your time doing c25k before. Tim updated the program guide a few months ago-it might be worth a skim through if you’d like to.

Wishing you loads of luck with your journey. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Thank you very much :) I had such a busy week that didn't even have time to reply to you earlier.

I am dreading the weather to be honest, as I am all the time at the edge of having a cold, but I refuse to give in. And in that light, I decided to start running not knowing that the winter supposed to visit us again upcoming week O_O I think as before I am having the worst weather in the early weeks of my program :')

I hope I will keep going out and doing my best, and that I will avoid the pesky germs.

Oh tell me about it! I hit another decade and well over 2 stones more than I have been not so long time ago. I beat the same drum of "slow and steady", now even slower.

...and I lost weight... too much and am still fighting to get it back on!

gaining weight - not good, loosing too much weight - not good :(

Have you tried some body weight strengthening or gym? Gaining muscles are the best to bump up the weight plus a solid hydration of course.

Oh yes... regularly... I got back up to 8 stone 2lbs... and then Covid pre Christmas meant that I lost a bit again...since then building back and when I started running again that helped... ( I put weight on when I first did C25K), trouble is,,, we don't really eat the stiff that piles weight on quickly...so it takes longer!

Well done for getting back on it. Always feels better to have done it. I’m on week 7 after a break so can relate to how you feel. I should be doing W7R2 this morning. Came on here maybe to avoid but also to get motivation. Now I have it. We just keep trying. Great to know do many people are doing this.

Keep going! I have completed my week 1 today (will be writing a post soon). Week 7 - wow! So close to the end. Seems so far away and somehow too close at the same time :') How was your W7R2?

Best of luck with your 2nd attempt from a fellow Lurcher owner (only the old kind unfortunately, he's 12 now, I would love a younger model to run with!)

Is he running with you? Or at this age not anymore? My 11 year old does not run with me, although she still likes to run here and there, but only a short distances and even shorter time.

Not anymore sadly, no. I took him for the early runs of the programme when I first did it but I don't think he sees or hears as well as he used to and just wants to stop and sniff more so it was frustrating having to keep running on the spot!

Hi Iga,

after many complications, I tried to start again (for the umpteenth time) and lo and behold - you are here too! You have a head start on me, but I'm also trying not to give up. So congratulations, it's great to meet you here again and I'm very happy about it. I wish you the best of luck in your run!👍👍👍
