Harder than I thought: I'm very overweight and... - Couch to 5K
Harder than I thought
Well done you for making a start. That is the difficult bit done! I found week one hard. I did it twice, just because I felt so bad not being able to do the last few “runs”, in the session, without stopping just a little bit early. It may help if you YouTube Japanese Slow Running Man. I copied him all through the course. Stance, breathing, speed particularly speed. Same speed all the way up to and including Week 9. The plan does work. From there it built me and my endurance up so that I did a 5K park run last Saturday, mid May. March 4th I was where you are now. Hang on in there.
There are a load of folks here cheering you on. Go for it!
Don't worry give your body time to get used to running, also don't move on to run 2 until you've fully completed run 1😊
We all start from different levels. Do make sure you are happy walking briskly for the time of run 1 first. Then introduce the running at a slow pace.
You have done the hardest bit by getting out there . Well Done.
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Enjoy your journey
hello Tryingtochange, well done for getting started, dont worry you will get there in the end, just slow down, like previous people have said walk briskly until you get more comfortable doing the running bits- look up japanese slow jogging as advised. I struggled to run for 60 seconds at first but the programme builds your stamina and now I did 20 minutes in week 5
please keep at it and keep in touch with everyone here for support and encouragement, we are all on a learning journey to a fitter life physically and psychologically😊🐢
Congratulations on starting, I know that was the hardest part for me. The aching will go as your body gets use to it, try having a warm bath or shower to relax the muscles. I have just finished week 1 and have noticed I am now aching less than I did when I first started
As other people have said do it at your own pace. Your run doesnt have to be faster than your walk, but do make sure you complete the runs before moving on.
I’m with you. Did day 1 on Friday, only managed to complete the 1st 4 runs😞- however, realised that before I did it, I didn’t think I would manage any. Just back from my 2nd run. Only completed the 1st run. 😞 Still I’m getting more exercise than ever before, so I will have to be happy with that.
I confess that I shouted “NO” and swore at Sarah every time she asked me if I was ready to run on the first time out, but I’m now on week 3 and finding it much easier than I expected.
Hi there, welcome to a wonderful journey. It was your first run so your body is adjusting so be kind to yourself, have a recovery day, two if you need then get back out there again, it’s an addictive journey
