Guys I need your help! I could just not get myself out of bed this morning. I found the last run on Tuesday so hard that I still ache. But now I’ve got up and to work I’m feeling really bad. Need to motivate myself.

I felt horrendous this morning after a bad night sleep and hayfever being really mean at the moment. As soon as I’d finished my session (with some extra walking when I couldn’t continue running) felt 10x better. Or rather I started feeling normal.

It’s worth it. For me I just need move even if can’t manage the whole thing and that improves the day.

Hi Fabat50, don't beat yourself up over it, really. I took 2 rest days after W1R1, I think I ran too fast. But I've just finished week 1 (hurray!!) and I'm now looking forward to W2. I really struggle in the mornings, maybe you're just not a morning runner? Perhaps you could try running this evening, if that's practical for you. Above all, just keep trying, I think it will take me longer than suggested, but it's taken me this long to get unfit that a few weeks more really won't matter! You've done the hard part, you've decided to do it, so just go for it, you can do it!!! 😃

Firstly, well done for getting this far, looking at your posts you completed w6r1 that is quite an achievement. It’s ok to have a second rest day if you’re achy. Are you also running on a treadmill? This is easier than running outside, but maybe you’re still running too fast? So first try slowing right down to a level where you could hold a conversation.

Have you seen this before?

I first saw this in w6 and it changed everything for me. I’m not sure how suitable this is on a treadmill, but it’s very doable outside! And it will be useful as the durations increase. C25K is really about learning to run for 30 minutes, so running slowly and focusing only on this is a good way to proceed. Forget pace and distance for now, go very slowly, and see how you do.

Today try to focus on all the positives you’ve felt in doing this. Read posts & replies on the forum to help motivate yourself. And tomorrow - you can do this!

Tell yourself you needed an extra rest day.

Next run, follow all the advice in the guide to the plan on pacing and minimising impact as well as stretching after every run........do that and over the next few weeks the aches will ease to insignificance.

If you need another rest day that's ok, just remember how good it feels when you complete a run 😊

Hi Run Buddy. Here to motivate you 🤗....

First off, you are not to feel bad. Your achievements so far are immense. You are a runner. Look how far you have come in just six weeks. You nailed W5R3, you completed W6R1, which I found hard.

Secondly, listen to your body. If it is achy it’s not ready to run today, and that is fine. Sometimes we fail to listen to ourselves and respond correctly. So rather than beating yourself up about not running this morning, acknowledge it instead and accept it as another rest day because it is the right thing to do. Do some light stretches and drink plenty water, it will do you good.

Thirdly, DiscoRunner’s clip on slow jogging is really good. She shared it with me in week 1 and it works for me - it makes me feel everything is doable. Go slow and slower still.

Finally, last bit of pep talk is read through all your positive posts and chats on here. You’ve been great in giving us all help, advice and good banter. We’re all here for you. DD 🤗 xx

Hi Delly-dot. Thank you so much for you lovely long supportive message. I went to a meeting and when I came out I saw this. I’m going to be kind to myself and take a second rest day. It probably takes a bit longer for this old body to repair 😀. I will also have a look at DiscRunners clip. Although I do feel if I go anymore slowly I will end up going backwards!!!

Thank you so much xx

As long as you’re not lying down - there’s no such thing as too slow!!

It’s okay to take 3 or 4 days between runs if you hurt and you need to.

The hardest thing to overcome is the mental hurdle you put yourself through when you tell yourself you failed. No. You just needed an extra day’s rest and you took it.

Give yourself a mental and physical break today and tomorrow is a whole new day. You’re getting closer to the end now.

Keep going 💪

Xx
