Now I feel like a runner

I’ve just come back from completing my W5R3 run, the first 20 minute run. I felt really worried that I wouldn’t be able to run that far in one go and probably didn’t go out with the right mental attitude. But when Sarah explained that my body was already trained enough to make it I decided to give it my best shot. Mind over matter and all that and.... I did it! It wasn’t easy and I really wanted to stop but I pushed myself and it happened! I’m really chuffed with my little self! And now I feel like a runner as I ran for the whole session! Many have said it before but if you’d told me five short weeks ago I would be looking back at this achievement I’d have laughed at you! Onwards and upwards to week 6! 👍🏻

Great run. It is mind over matter sometimes, and that breakthrough obviously makes you believe in yourself more... nothing to fear in any of the runs now!

Definitely a milestone. Only just over a year since I did that one. I can still recall thinking. "Wow I can really do this" well done!

Indeed yes. I consolidated for a while and just enjoyed being able to run a couple of times a week. I think thats a really key thing to do as it does build up strength and I think more importantly makes running just a good habit. Then I just gradually ran a bit further and did a couple of runs with our ( now adult children). A couple of weeks ago, my wife said...... The school ( our local comprehensive) are having a 10k race in a couple of weeks. Why dont you do it? So I did after discovering the fun of park run the week before. I basically find running to be incredibly relaxing and continue to be surprised that I can do it! So, do please continue with your running journey. The first long continuous run of 20 mins is however very special.

Keep us posted with your news!
