Niggling/numb feeling in middle toes 😬

I’ve got to week 6 and managed to avoid any real aches and pains so far. This week however, I’ve been getting a tingling and numb feeling from the middle of the ball of my right foot heading up to my middle toes. I don’t over tighten my shoes and I warm up well before every run. I’m thinking that part of my foot might be taking more pressure than the rest. Any advice on what I could use to relieve it? TIA

I've got the the same problem I think. Mine happens when I run for more than 45 mins. Only in the left foot tho. Hopefully physio is going to sort it.

I’ve had a look online and some sites recommend gel inserts but I wouldn’t know where to start with which ones. Maybe a trip to a physio would be a good idea if it continues. Thanks for your reply 😊

I ordered gel insoles. Didn't work. Comfy but still the same. For me anyway. I just accepted that I would just run for less than 45 mins. But now I've a 2nd injury so have to go lol

It may be a trapped nerve.

I had considered that, only ever experienced it once before when out on the mountains after a good walk. Eased up now after some massage. Thanks

Tingling may be symptomatic of poor circulation caused by feet spreading as you run for longer duration, and being confined by too small shoes.

Many runners have shoes two sizes larger than their normal shoe size to avoid this.

Ah ok, thanks. There seems to be plenty of room in my shoes but maybe it’s time to get myself to a running store and have a gait analysis and treat myself to a new pair that might be better suited to me. As I was very new to running I just got an ‘off the shelf’ pair to get me started. Thanks for your reply 😊

Agree with Evilippy, tingling and numbness usually is commonly related to nerves/trapped or pinched nerves. A trip to the physio will help explain all and give you a better idea of how to keep up running and ensure it is still looked after. better safe than sorry with nerves.

Be careful that your shoes and laces are not too tight. I have a point about halfway down the lace section where if it is tight at that spot it will effect it.

I have always thought I had poor circulation as perpetually have cold feet however it seems to have got better since I started running. Oddly enough my toe nails seem to grow quicker too!

It could be tendonitis? I had this a few years ago (not from running, from wearing a pair of really high wedge heels!).

It started with numbness/tingling in my toes, then the top of my foot swelled and went all puffy. I had really painful toes when putting weight on the balls of my feet.

One foot went down and healed quicker than the other, which is still a bit puffy.

A woman I work with had tendonitis at the same time, but hers went on to become Morton’s Neuroma - very painful.

If it is tendonitis you will have to rest your foot/feet as much as possible, and RICE is the recommended first step.

Hopefully it isn’t tendonitis as it can take a time to ease and can recur, but just throwing it out there as a suggestion.

Do ensure your laces aren’t too tight 🙂

Leave your laces out of the bottom eyelets on your shoes, thus has helped me as my toes middle toes were numb at the top, they are now ok

I agree with Agelesslass. I know you say you don’t over tighten your laces but I have had a similar problem and now miss out the first set of eyelets on my trainers-problem solved.

I have a problem with toes in particular my second toe on right foot going numb - doctor diagnosed a bunion on that toe - not in the usual place. This varies with shoes though. New (larger) trainers are much better than the old ones.
