My previous endvour ended when I developed Achilles tendinitis. After physiothrapy things improved. My latest attempt at the 5k goal was successful and I continued running every other day. Unfortunately on Saturday I used a treadmill to beat my 30 minutes 5k and managed 28 minutes but injured my ankle which I believe is Achilles tendinitis again. This is disappointing as I now love running. My advice to the older runner aim for stamina rather than speed. Any tips on how my ankle can get better quicker

Hi JF,
Any idea how you download a hard copy of this.🤔
Sorry for a dumb question.
Atb with your solution/successful recovery.
Kind regards
Tbae.

Can you not download from my Dropbox?
I put it there because the original source became out of date. If you want to pm me your email address I would be happy to send it to you.
We are trying to put together a download page exactly for these sorts of files.
Thank you so much Mentor.
Yes I can and I have read it several times.
I am sorry I should have said I was trying to download/ print off a hard copy.
I am so very grateful to you and did not want to trouble you,you are so busy.
I do hope all is good with you Tim.
If all else failed I was going to use the telephone numbers at the foot of the patient advice from Oxford University after Easter.
Excellent paper and it describes exactly the self inflicted overuse injury I have brought on myself. The gold standard eccentric exercises will help me get me back trotting.🤔
I was going along nicely upto Run 6.2. Initially only doing 3 runs per week, was comfortable so tweaked to every 2nd day and tried to tweak my pace a little.
So for me I got ahead of the tendon repair.Appears to be such a fine balance/ limit.
Ankle did not like it.So worried that I was going to have to go back to where I was on the 23/01/19.( square one
for me).
I can never thank you enough for what you have done for me first time round and now with this paper.
I just could not live without
this magic forum and my trotting.
Never forget reading from you this will change your life and how.

Your ankle will get better and heal fully but there’s no speedy solution. It depends on the extent of your injury and how carefully it’s being treated. When l busted mine l did it so well that it took approx 14 weeks to run again and could barely walk without pain for a few weeks in the immediate aftermath. And l didn’t even break it. I learned to treat it better since and haven’t had any issues for a few years now. You’ll be fine but don’t push it and never lose patience and self belief.
This is so very helpful and reassuring mrrun.
Amazing advice. You touch on it all.
Like yourself I have not busted it but panic set in when the previous pain levels of 23/01/19 returned.
This OU patient paper is going to help me with as you say mrrun, patience, self belief and not pushing it,and I must say from total despair I am all over the place.🙈
I desperately do not want my journey to end here after only 15 months of running in my 76 th year.
Cannot get enough of trotting and this magic forum.
Thank you so much.

Injury caused setbacks are simply part of the game, I convinced myself. I restarted the program twice, had numerous bits falling off me since and l know l will somehow get injured again but I’ll pick myself up and carry on. Clearly, there’s no other alternative. Oh, and thank lord that we don’t have to run by using our hands. I fell backwards a month ago, landing on the outstretched palm and hurt my tendon to heavens. Hehe....never mind. It will heal.
