Water Carrying & General Kit

I've just finished W7 (astonishing) & am thinking I should probably be taking water with me. At the moment I've just got keys & a phone with me on a run & I've no idea how to carry much else. Does everyone have those things you strap on your arm? What do people do about water generally?

If your hydration is good, you shouldn’t need water for a 30 minute run. I carry my water bottle at all times apart from when I’m running and sip water all day every day.

I tend to only have my car key or house key with me, depending on where I’m running, and that goes in my shorts back pocket. I carry my phone, but my daughter uses a running belt. Headphones are wireless so no issues there.

Great job so far... enjoy week 8.

It's a personal choice.

You shouldn't really need it at this stage, so long as you are well hydrated.

Maybe ask yourself if you feel you need it whilst running, if you do, there's no harm in taking some with you I guess, if not I wouldn't worry.

I've only ever taken water with me on 1 run and that was at the peak of last years heatwave, even then I didn't drink any until I was on my warm down walk.

As for the Arm Strap thing, I do have one and it does the job, but they are not that comfortable and practical with the Velcro sometimes loosening around your bicep. A lot of people recommend a flip belt for carrying their phone and keys etc. Not tried one myself, but seriously thinking about it.

I’ve got my phone and house key in an arm strap and Bluetooth headphones, I don’t carry water as I don’t think I need it for 30 minutes, I make sure I drink plenty especially the day before so figure I’ll be ok.

I have a running belt which stays put really well as I ran with my phone in my hand for weeks. It’s nicer to not have to hold it. I haven’t carried water with me yet but I have a 5 mile race tomorrow and the organisers are trying to be cup-free for the water stations so I’ll be trying out running with a bottle for the first time tomorrow. I think it could be quite warm and I’ll be running for over an hour. Usually I just rely on being well hydrated though as others have said

A running belt with bottles is the best way to carry water, unless you want to go as far as the bladder in a backpack solution, but for any run up to an hour's duration you should not need to carry water, as mentioned in the guide to the plan.

I have a belt that carries one 500ml bottle, but think that the smaller two bottle types are probably more balanced. These sorts of belts will also provide pockets for small items.

If you make sure you're well hydrated all day 7 days a week you shouldn't need water for a 30 minute run , no more for you to carry 😊
