What do you peoples use to carry things (water, ID phone etc) while running??

I tried an armband but it really bugged me.

I just Freecycled my armband as it was too big and just kept falling down

I run as light as possible.  Just a key and mp3 player. Mostly, just a key.  So my pants have to have a zip pocket.  A run jacket with pockets is ok as you can take it off and tie it round your middle when you get hot. I keep my hankie in there and a snack if needs be.

Jacket has a chest pouch for the mp3 player.i usually only take that, keys and tissues. If I am running without a jacket, I take a spibelt but my scapris have deep pockets so I can also have mp3 in one pocket, keys and tissues in the other. I don't take water. You can get spibelts with 2 pouches which stops keys scratching your screens. Expands to fit a phone, credit card. If I want to take water at some stage, I'll look for a belt with 2 pouches and bottle grip.

Tried a bumbag but got a bit hot. Now have keys in a secret pocket in the waistband of my running leggings. A small elesticated pouch round waist for phone. MP3 with Laura and stepping stones in the outside breast pocket of my running jacket with headphones...

I carry a handheld donut shaped water bottle too..for the warm down.

My jacket is the Ronhill mens one.

Thanks! I think I'll try a little pouch around my waist. I use the C25K app so I need my phone, and I like to carry my ID and a bit of cash, just in case.

I had the same problem last weekend. So far I've had a jacket, but it's getting too hot - I ended up running with my mobile in my hand, as it was pulling my running tights down! That was a pain! I've now bought myself a flipbelt, which takes all sorts of stuff. Ran properly with it yesterday and people are right - you don't even notice it's there. A bit fiddly to get at mobile for switching things on and off, but that's practice. I don't take water. Not going far enough yet.

Funnily enough, I spent yesterday afternoon researching flipbelts but can't work out which size I need. How did you decide if you don't mind me asking?

I'm a size 10 and bought the largest size. I wear it pulled over my hips and bottom, but in retrospective I maybe should have bought a smaller size because it occasionally it rides up.

Someone posted a table on Amazon for working out your size. I got medium which goes up to a 32" waist. I think large adds another 6 inches and XL another few inches. I think I was a bit ambitious and should have taken a size larger, but it does work and it gives me an incentive to lose a couple more inches!

I have a flip belt . It goes around your waist and sits really nicely.

I use football type shorts with pockets, so phone, keys and hanky goes there. Hate taking anything else.  Only reluctantly take water if I'm doing more than 7 or 8 miles.

When I was running outside I used to take a little backpack but made sure it was fairly tight against me so it didn't jiggle too much. Only used to contain my phone and keys and I didn't find it too much of a distraction. This was only on my first few weeks of C25k where there's a lot more walking. Not sure how I'd find it now?

That would be really nice, as I occasionally have my dog with me. It would be great for hiking too...

Hi I take a small bottle of water and phone for app and music.  I wear now warmer a 'time to run' zip up gillet which is high bus and had 2 zip pockets.  It was £12 ish from  Amazon .  I have also got a bum bag from start fitness for hotter days.  Hope this helps

I just carry phone and keys.  I have old-fashioned jogging bottoms with pockets, and I just stick them in.  Could easily stick a cashcard/id in I suppose, just doesn't feel necessary.

On normal everyday runs: Key in zip pocket  if wearing running shorts or just in hand if not. Don't usually take anything else. Dog lead in hand if taking. Can't see the point in being cluttered with anything more.

On longer runs, 10 miles + and distance races I wear a racebelt which has pouches for two small water bottles and pocket for stuff - gels(shudder) etc. I make a terrible fuss about how much I hate it and how uncomfortable it feels, and then forget all about it after the first mile or so.

Always urprises me how mny people at 10k and even 5k race are loaded up with water bottles and how the ground is littered with gel packets. What, your body is going to run out of glycogen in 30 minutes?

Runs up to 10km ...

Key in zip pocket of shorts. Little sansaclip mp3 player clipped onto waistband of shorts.  In winter phone in kangaroo pouch pocket of decathlon running hoody.

Longer runs, cereal bar also in zip pocket of shorts.

Not yet decided what to do about water as the warmer weather arrives. I think I'll look for the kind of belt that Rignold describes. I certainly do not want to be holding anything in my hands while running. I thought about camel back water carrying back pack, but wonder if it might feel too hot and sweaty, or if the sloshing might annoy me. So the water carrying thing is still under consideration :)

I wear a spandex belt which stores cash, keys and phones.  I got it on a groupon deal. I don't us take water but if I do I've a small handheld bottle from sports direct.😀

Thank you everyone! This was really helpful. I might go for the backpack (not the water one) because then I could also use it for hiking. And my phone is kinda big :P

Oh for anyone wondering, I'm in Colorado, US. The summers are scorching here, so I might also get a belt....

An Onyaback is a very light, stuffable backpack (and won't get sweaty) Don't know if you can get them over there (think they are an Oz thing though so if we can in UK presumably there's someone in the US selling them) I find that quite nice for keys and wallet if I am out with my usual backpack before I run (don't want to leave financial stuff in the car)

I don't carry water but that's pretty much all I don't carry. I have a shoulder bag which contains umpteen buffs, my gloves when they are off, keys, sometimes phone if I am not wearing it in a neck pouch, dog whistle, dog treats (warm sausage wrapped in foil if we are doing a 'reminder' about the importance of recall), with a Dicky Bag clipped to it (this is a neoprene container for dog poo bags, filled and unfilled)

I do not travel light!

I stuff as much as I can in my zip on my capris. Otherwise i have just bought a rather beautiful Solomon running vest which I can put sweets, inhaler, foil blanket etc and is really lightweight. Highly recommend it...

In the cold weather my jacket pockets can hold key, tissues, Parkrun card, phone, emergency cash.  In the summer, I have tried various traveller's security wallets.  One you hang round your neck: stays in place fairly well inside clothes but can give you neck ache, fairly easy to get phone in and out for stopping runkeeper. One round your waist: can hold all you need but fiddly to get phone in/out, easy to accidentally stop runkeeper.  Otherwise, zip pockets in the back of capris or shorts will hold keys, money, Parkrun card; tissues will go in bra, just leaves the problem of the phone.  Tried an arm band and hated it.  Tried stuffing in bra, too sweaty.   Have been known to run along with phone in one hand and water bottle in the other. As I have become better at running, I have thankfully lost my dependence on always carrying a water bottle, at least for the 5ks, but I fear it will be back as the weather warms up.

I got a running belt from EBay. I didn't expect much, but for less than £2 including delivery I thought I would risk it, and I think it's great. My keys and inhaler fit in one side, with my phone in the other. And if it rains I can wear it under my top and my pathetic-when-faced-with-the-merest-drop-of-moisture iPhone survives.

I'm also having the same debate, At the moment I wear a thin fleece gilet which is great for carrying my phone in a zipped pocket, and dog poo bags and my keys can go in back zip pocket of running tights, for warmer weather I bought a phone armband thing and it is so irritating I've never left the house with it...(I don't think they are compatible with bingo wings!) the answers on this post are great as I had never seen the fitband type things but now after trawling Amazon I can't decide what I want who knew how many types of waist band/bumbag pouchy things existed!

Currently, I wear leggings that have a teeny wee pocket above the bum, which is where I stash my keys once I leave the house. Because it's still chilly, I wear a Rab fleece (that I got for hillwalking) on top, which has a breast pocket, in which I put a couple of tissues (because if it's cold my nose runs no matter what, ugh) and my phone. On the first 5 weeks I just ran holding my phone, because I didn't use the app, I just set a timer and had to know when to change to walking/running. Now I'm onto the 25 mins, I set the timer, stick the phone in my pocket, and then at my half-way point I check the timer.

I do need to consider what to do in the warmer months as I'd like to start listening to music on some runs (not every time), but I won't always have my fleece with its handy pocket. Maybe time to invest in one of the suggestions here!

I didn't get on with those arm things either

Bum bag for me, a slum one, got mine from decathlon, holds phone key and tissues

I have 2 belts, 1 with a water bottle and one without. room for keys, phone, gels etc. I also went to aldi and got a wristband with room for some coins and a key etc.

So I think I'm going to buy myself a Flipbelt. It's a little expensive, but it looks just like what I want.

amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JF9DW...

I just use my armband for my phone and a tissue in my pocket and a really small sized tonic bottle for my water. This isn't much bigger than my hand. I'm not confident to run without water yet even though I don't drink any until the end of my run. When I've completed my graduation run I'm going to get some new running gear so will see if I can ditch the armband then:) Might even fill the tonic bottle with some G&T as a celebration at the end of the grad run :p
