Just completed W4R1 for the third time. I first completed this run on 19th December 2018, then in January this year I got ill - an illness I later discovered was a hernia (completely unrelated to running) - so all running stopped until Dr gave all clear. By then I'd reached W7R2 - but after missing 7 runs I started again in February - dropping back to W4R1. After 3 weeks running in Feb and climbing back up to W6R3 I had the hernia operation which knocked me out for all of March.
Working on the basis that for every week missed I'd go back a week in the program, I started on All Fools Day on W3R1 and it was tough. W3R2 was tougher, but by the third run that week I felt OK again. Running W4R1 today was actually quite enjoyable - but I'm still about 30m off pace for the 5 minute runs compared to where I was at the start of the year - but I'm not disheartened - that will come in time.
If everything had gone to plan I should have graduated at the end of January - now it looks like mid-May - but I'll get there. People like me - in their 50's who have done no exercise since school are likely to have set-backs and delays. I'm feeling very pleased with myself that despite two enforced stops, I've got back in the saddle, and now I'm looking forward to Wednesday and W4R2.
