W6R3 complete...but ran through nausea

Hi all. Completed this run this morning on a lovely route. Toxic 10 dissipated, so I thought "right, time to relax into this run and enjoy it"

I suddenly started to feel incredibly sick, but continued running hoping it would pass. It wasn't pleasant, but pass it did after about 3 mins. I did return in the last 3 minutes of the run, as I pushed myself up an incline.

I don't eat anything before I go for a morning run, just drink 500ml of water. I make sure I am always well hydrated on both run days and non run days

My friends think it could be my diet affecting these longer runs. I have been following a largely plant based diet since Christmas and have lost 2 stone and feel amazing normally. I am not averse to eating meat, just don't enjoy it very much. Maybe for these longer runs I am needing more than plants and pulses?? Any ideas from my fellow couch to 5 kers?

Losing weight, regaining your fitness, running - that is the point of your 5 year sabbatical I would think. So there is no need to go adding meat back into your diet (providing that you are getting enough protein and vitamins from your diet).

I suspect that the nausea is connected with you feeling hungry on these longer runs (you just ran for 25 minutes)!!! You could try half a banana, or a couple of dates, or some almonds 45 minutes before your run. Just something to give you a little fuel on your run. Running is all about experimenting: try different things to see it they can help.

Congratulations to you Franglaise on completing run 3 of week 6, you are now OFFICIALLY a RUNNER, glad the toxic 10 dissipated, glad you enjoyed your run.

Good advice on being well hydrated and drinking plenty of water 💦 before you run, especially the day before. 😊

Congratulations on losing 2 stone over the past few months, you must be on a very healthy diet, a little wine is OK, especially after you have completed a run

Onwards and upwards to week 7 which are all 3/25 minute runs. 🏃 😊

I’ve been vegetarian since I was 14 and can say I’m not needing meat to keep me running. When you say plant based, is that as in vegan? Protein can be more of an issue the more choices you remove, but it’s not impossible. There are premier league footballers going plant based now, and there’s a good website meatfreeathlete.com/ for runners. Maybe it’s worth tracking through an app like Lifesum to see if there’s any missing food groups, it has different options for preferred diets and goals.

As far as your description of the run though, it doesn’t sound like a lack of protein is the issue to me. Has this happened before? Maybe have a banana an hour before the run and see if that helps.

No, it's never happened before on a run. I don't feel amazing still. Thinking about it I did wake up with a splitting headache in the middle of the night...so maybe I am just under the weather generally. I am 47 and a lady, so could be all sorts of things going on! (I expect you boys to shy away from that one!)

Drinking lots of water now and hugging a hot water bottle to stop shivering...may just have to light the log fire.

Don't want anything getting in the way of week 7!

Maybe just a one off... here’s hoping. Think meat free athlete also have a podcast.

Get that fire going and rest well... hopefully your next run will be wonderful.

Hopefully...feeling like I have got this. Just lit it now...three cocker spaniels have just pushed me out of the way of it!

Next run isn't until Monday....two days should be all I need...I'm a tough old bird.

Oh dear it sounds like you are coming down with something ☹

We are very similar age, and I sometimes wonder if the thing happening at the time is the start of the big M or just normal crappiness 😳

Ho hum the joys of being female 😉

Take care of yourself and if still feeling pants hold off doing your next run. Best a couple of extra days now than putting a sick body under more stress.
