Just completed my first post-grad run after missing out on Sunday (hosted a post-surprise-birthday party brunch for 15 - enough to get anyone's heart-rate up. Who knew there was so many ways to want your scrambled eggs...!). Anyway, only managed 4.9 km (although this is an issue with my tracker) but my right calf is hurting again. Feels like there is a huge knot right in the middle. It goes away by the second day but comes right back again at around the half-way mark of the run. Maybe I need to stretch more before the run....

Also no Laura, no music - just the birds and the smell of cut grass to keep me going - I was sure I wouldn't get out of bed to do this having already reached my goal but I'm surprising myself

Congratulations and well done. You should perhaps take a little break after 15 mins running and try some stretching, then continue with your run and stretch again afterwards. Se if that helps. Sometimes I do this on an interval training run and it really helps.

I tried stretching before my run this morning which seemed to do the trick - managed 5.5kms with no pain

Fantastic. That’s great. Hopefully that will work for all your runs in the future. Thanks for letting me know. Best of luck on the rest of your C25K journey.

You don't have to run 5K. You can do what you like now. If the muscle is cramping you might want to look at stretching, hydration etc. However if the muscle is strained you cannot fix it by more running so maybe just a twenty minute run and/or longer rest periods. You'll feel whether it's getting better or worse. Adjust accordingly.
