I have just finished week 2. I honestly think that my running isn't much faster than the walking! 😂🚶Also my shins are hurting a little. Does anyone else have this problem?

Well done.

Most new runner's aches and pains are caused primarily by the impact of running, so do all you can to minimise it. Slow down, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop. Extra leg strengthening exercises may help. Also, stretch after every run, as per the guide to the plan.

Really doesn't matter if you are not much faster than walking, or only as fast as walking or slower than walking. It's a different movement with a different impact on the body and its systems.

(Running cured my shin pain that I'd suffered for years so can't help you there... although it took a little while)

My brisk walk is faster than my running but I’m not too worried. The main thing is I am moving and enjoying it. Can’t advise about the shin pain sorry.

The trick for me to learn to run was to realise my run could be slower than my brisk walk. Then I discovered the Japanese slow jogging technique (there’s a short film on youtube) and learned to run really slowly and that changed everything for me. Give it a whirl and see how you get on. It’s low impact so about injury free running and the tips on foot placement will help you avoid pain. Good luck!
