Music as I run.....

I am very new to both running and this forum but I’m trying to embrace both!! I’m sure I read somewhere that I could have my own playlist going whilst Laura spoke over the top of it....sadly I found that this is not the case!

Can anyone tell me how to listen to my music whilst I run and still have Laura instructing me... or even if it’s possible?

Thank you. 😊

Hi Everon, welcome to the forum and indeed the C25K plan. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Yes, it's certainly possible to play your own music whilst following Laura's instructions, but to do this you need to download the One You C 2 5k app onto your phone. Them before each run, simply set your playlist going, start the app, follow the instructions and off you go.

There are also other instructors you can follow- I've used both Laura and Jo Wiley on my journey.

So as long as you have the app and your playlist on your phone, you should be ready to go!

Hi driver08uk.

Thank you for your reply - I did try that but as soon as Laura started speaking- my music went off and didn’t start again!! Is there more than one app maybe? I have the Couch to 5K - is there another similar?? I’m not very tech minded so am struggling a bit - although I have managed to sort out my wireless headphones etc!!

It sounds like you have the right app if you have Laura on it - it's the NHS One You app. Maybe try again, it could be there was a glitch the first time you tried, but it should work. Set the music playing first then start the app. Is your phone very old? Sometimes an old phone with little memory will struggle to cope with more than one app at a time.

I had c25k , Strava and my music going at the same time no problem. Your music volume just lowers a bit when it's time for Laura to talk . Try it again and see 😊

I’ve downloaded the C25K app and use my Apple Music app to play my running playlist. I usually open my music and start that playing before I open the app, click on whichever run I’m on and start that. They both work together at the same time which I’m glad about because I absolutely need music when I run/workout for the distraction! I use Sarah not Laura but it should work exactly the same I’m assuming!

Good luck with this challenge.

Thanks everyone - I’ll try again later and see if it was just a glitch. It sounds so easy to get both apps going....I’ll have another go! I can’t even blame it on the phone as it’s an iPhone X! 🥴

I listen to music via youtube music and Laura talks over it.

So not sure if this helps but I had a similar experience and then realised I’d downloaded the podcast with Laura and not the app😀 once I’d found the app it worked

You may want to check the settings of your music app. Sometimes the settings in music app might not allow the "short audio focus change". I don't have an iphone, but the music app I use has an option to temporarily duck volume for calls/other apps and bring it back up to normal volume. Maybe someone with an iphone could help you.

I have the same on occasion. You might need to close your music app first and foremost. Start c25k app and be ready to start the run. Open your music app (I use Spotify) and hit play. Now you can listen to your tunes in the C25k app, you re ready to hit start.
