Just finished Run 2 of week 1 and I am IN PAIN!!!! My legs hurt in places I never thought they could and I feel like a failure for having to sometimes pause it to give myself a longer rest between each run. BUT- I AM running and that’s not something I ever thought I could do.

Does anyone get self conscious whilst running? That you don’t look right, or you wobble when you run?😂

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and pay attention to the advice on minimising impact and stretching after every run.

Enjoy your journey.

Sorry to hear you're in pain :( I have run 2 of week 1 coming up in the morning and I definitely wobble, but I'm not letting what other people may think bother me - we are doing better than we were a week ago :D

As you've just started sometimes you get aches and pains as you body is getting used to a new exercise. Also don't worry , be proud that you are running you are making an amazing change to your life , anyone that is looking at you will be thinking 'I wish I could run ' because that is what I used to say to myself . You can do this 😊😊

Don't feel a failure - you're doing it! And don't let self consciousness put you off. I thought I would be, but I'm so much less self conscious running than I would be in an exercise class - I have no coordination! Just think of what you'll achieve. You are amazing!

The NHS website had some tips for stretching after runs. It really does help.

I have just finished Week 1 and I definitely wobble when I run! That's why I'm doing Couch to 5k - will wobble a bit less each week, hopefully! Well done, keep going and try not to listen to any inner voices trying to make you doubt yourself...

Running is 80% mind, 20% body. Your body will improve only if your ‘mind’ has the positive attitude to allow it to happen, so who cares what wobbles or what we look like. Chin up. Best foot forward and run! You’ll feel the benefits after the ‘early ‘ pains wear off. Which they will do. Good luck. And jog on ! 👍

Highly recommend this- nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... I’ve been relatively pain free since I started doing these stretches religiously after each run...

I have just finished week 1 and my hip is sore! I just did it too quick - can see I have got to slow it right down.

Not a race - just ease yourself along and do it in your own time!

Great job getting out there and starting this! I’m thinking slow down... as long as you’re running you’re going fast enough... if you’re struggling to breathe it’s too fast.

You’ll never be a failure if you keep crossing the start lines... and you won’t fail this plan if you just keep coming back. Repeat any run you don’t fully complete, it doesn’t matter if you do this in 27 or 100 runs, the end result is the same.

I used to get self conscious... then I worked out that the people I was worried about seeing me can’t do this (yet) and then I decided to leave the house in shorts and just go run. A couple or three runs in and my neighbour was outside... he asked about my attire (I never wore shorts!) and to cut a long story short... he, his wife and two kids can now run 5k! Go be seen, inspire others.

Enjoy your journey.

I’ve just finished run two of week 1 too, and my legs ache in places I didn’t know I had! I may need a long recovery time till the next one but keep going! Hot baths and keep active has helped me! Be kind to yourself! X
