I last ran on 22nd feb but I haven’t run since due to a torn hip muscle!!! I’ve been to the docs but they weren’t very clear on how soon I should start doing the hip exercises or running again. They gave me some ibuprofen gel which I’ve been applying every day. I’ve been resting it and I haven’t exercised or stretched at all since I did it but it is still aching most days. Please can anyone advise me on approx how long I should be completely resting it for and how soon I should start stretching it and maybe going for a gentle run. I’m dying to get back out there!! 👍🏃♂️
That’s torn it!!!: I last ran on 22nd feb but I... - Couch to 5K

That's maybe a better question for physio department are you able to contact them at all ?
Thanks for replying. The doc referred me to physio for my back (god I’m getting old) but not for my hip. Maybe I could self refer. 👍
Yes I believe some people can self refer to physio depends where you stay
A good physio will talk to you about the whole of you as all our joints work together. It is possible that you back issues are connected to your hip issues on a structural level. When you get the appointment ask as many questions as you get time for. I find they are a great resource for general running information and usually love to share it.
Good luck with recovery just try gentle walking to keep you active and slowly get the tempo faster to a gentle jog see how you feel x listen to what you body tells you x
It depends on the extent of the tear. We get micro tears, which whilst sounding not too bad, still keep us on the injury couch Time is a great healer fortunately Eat healthily, Try and get good quality sleep I would keep mobile Anti-inflammatory pills take a while to kick in but the pain relief us useful. Thinking neurofen if ibufren kinda thing
I had a calf micro tear which took about a month but then you still have to work yourself slowly back to fitness I used to use the weight bearing equipment in the Park 🙂.
Be a patient patient 👍😃. Keep coming on here as you don’t want to suffer alone. The injury coach is a lonely place 🙂
Hope you’re not out too long... physio is the only way to go for starting light exercises as an injury heals.
