Week 7 Run 2

Ok run complete no dramas, but this was the reality check run. Tracked only the 25 minutes running and coveted 3.75km. That means by my reckoning if I want to run 5k in the 30 minutes I’m half a km short 🙁! Granted I did take the run quite easy as my knees were playing up a bit, but don’t know if I’ve got an extra 500 metres! The good news is felt really comfortable at that pace and could definitely have gone an extra 5 minutes so that’s definitely a plus! I know completing the 5k in 30 minutes isn’t a requirement to graduate, but it’s a personal target I’d like to manage! Should be an interesting couple of weeks 😂

Great run.

So... that 500m could come in the 9 weeks... or I could not... it didn’t for me... which meant I had to have 2 celebrations, so I wasn’t complaining! Personally, I wouldn’t even try to push the pace, I’d graduate comfortably, and then tag a few minutes on a run to get that 5k... then reel it in to 30... it shouldn’t take long at all as you’re close... new runners can knock minutes off a PB surprisingly quickly.

However you decide to close your goal and this plan out... have fun doing it.

Cheers unfitnomore, good advice as usual 👍! I actually really enjoyed the run tonight probably because I did hold myself back a little bit! I’m not going to push the 5k next few runs, if it happens it happens 🤷‍♂️! Can’t promise I won’t go do or die on the last run tho 😂

I understand! The relaxed comfortable runs are enjoyable during the run... gotta love them. The eyeballs out paced PB attempts... they’re fun when they’re over!

Abdolutely! I’m kinda looking forward to finishing and just running for the sake of it! I’m terrible when I have a target 😂! My aim at the start of this was to do a 10k by the end of the summer! With the progress I’ve made I’m happier now than I was a few weeks ago that I’ll be able to do that 🙂

For sure... assuming we get a summer 😂. You have plenty of time.

Aye well we’re not known for long hot summers up here so I’m definitely not banking on that 😂

Well done...!! And you also have seven runs still left before graduation ... so who knows what extra stamina and strength the fairies might bring...?!!!

😂 yes very true 😂! Maybe the running fairies work like the tooth fairy! I’ll try my running shoes under my pillow tonight 😂! I might not sleep but if I get that 5k who cares 🤦‍♂️😂

On my W7R2 I clocked up 4.1km and that was including my warm up and down! So your running pace is faster than mine. I managed 4.5km today on W8R1. So I guess it's a gradual increase.

My first goal is to run for 30 minutes, then run 5k, then reduce my time to manage 5k within the 30 minutes. Baby steps xx

4.5km today is really good, well done for that 🙂. Oh I know your right in what your saying re baby steps. I’ll try and behave and not do anything daft 😂. There’s no rush eh?

The programme will get you running for 30 minutes. Distance is immaterial at this point, it’s all about building stamina - and the habit of regular exercise. I’m now into my 2nd week post graduation and am now covering 5k - in 40 minutes (30 mins running plus the 5 min warm up and cool down walks). I’m so proud of my progress. If I had fixated on being able to do 5k in 30 minutes I’d have given up long ago.

Stay at a streaky pace to keep building towards completing the 3 30min runs in week 9 and graduating - then you can think about increasing your pace. You’ll likely find it naturally increases as you get stronger and fitter anyway, that’s certainly what I’m finding.
