Tonight I completed my first 20 minute run. While it felt amazing and i’m over the moon. I can’t help feeling my pace is a little on the slow side.

What!? Forget about slow and think about what you’ve just achieved!! You run for 20’; could you imagine that a few weeks ago? It’s a great achievement!

Speed can come later but for now it’s all about building your stamina, getting into a habit and enjoying the runs.

Well done :-)

Thanks. I never thought I would get this far. I guess I should be basking in the glory and not worrying about what’s next

Exactly! We’ve only been running a few weeks so it is already fantastic and we have time to become speedier if we want too. Tell you what though, I really enjoy my runs now and just happily plod along and it’s lovely just being outside and seeing everything. Have a celebration 🎉 (nb: do take week 6 extra slow because it’s a bit weird going back to intervals)

Yeah I was thinking why go back to intervals after doing this much of a run but guess there is some point to it all

I think it’s to extend the time you are exercising.

Could you run 1½ miles a few weeks ago?

Rejoice at your accomplishment.

There will be faster runners and there will be slower runners.........what does it matter.

You are doing great.

This is true I couldn’t run the length of myself before so I guess any pace is good

Great job. That run had me crying at the end. Pace is irrelevant here... your comfortable pace is your pace to run this at. After the plan you can decide if you want to work on pace, distance or fitness... now it’s all about getting fit and healthy... and you’re doing that perfectly. Enjoy week 6.

Looks like everyone had said it, but getting the minutes under you belt will increase your stamina, that's the aim. Building up to go further the next time.

Pace is for when you've graduated, naturally you'll gain pace over the weeks but don't sweat it.

Lastly, awesome work!

You have just run for 1.5 miles without stopping. That is an AWESOME achievement.

That couch is now far behind of you.

Be proud of that.

I have no idea what my pace is as I don’t care at the moment I’m just amazed that I completed w8 😁 well done and give yourself a pat on the back and think about pace when you’ve completed the programme, remember it’s a training programme not a race 😁

Everyone else has already said it - but your pace is just fine. Stay slow, that means you'll be building your stamina, completing the runs and enjoying being out and having time to look about you. Building speed can come later - if you want it to. There's nothing wrong with staying slow and having the time to look about you enjoying the scenery and wildlife while you run. I started off feeling like I wasn't a "real runner" because I was so slow - but now I do. :-) I've just completed week 9. :-) And I feel like as my fitness has improved my speed has increased just slightly and I'm much happier with it - and it still gives me time to enjoy spotting wildlife as I run!

It’s worth pointing out that that isn’t your running pace either. That includes 10 minutes of walking which will bring the speed down overall. I agree with everyone else though if you build it it will come, assuming that is what you want. It’s important to focus on distance and stamina at the moment The more you do the easier it becomes and the faster you will go without thinking about it.
