W6 R1 Killer!!

Oh my goodness!!! Smashed week 5 run 3 the dreaded 20 minute none stop run. I actually enjoyed it once I got into my pace and felt like I could have kept on going. But oh my god I just got in from w6r1 and it was so hard! I wasn’t expecting to struggle so much and I don’t understand why I found it so hard. It’s not like I haven’t run 5 minutes and then 8 minutes before. I thought I’d find it easy but how wrong was I!! Any advice anyone?!!

It is your longest workout to date..........

Well done.

One twenty minute run does not a runner make..........

Yes, that is the run that catches many people out after the 20 minutes of W5R3, I am continously warning runners of run 1 of week 6 to take it especially slow and steady 🏃 😊.

The next run will be very slow!! Lesson learned!

Guess that might be part of why it’s in there. 😂

I did that run tonight too. Def finding easier to run continuously than starting and stopping 😜🔫

This is my worry! I’m doing W6R1 tomorrow and have seen these warnings but was trying to get an understanding of why it caught people out and what to do to prevent it! Felt the same after completing W5 too! Well done for doing it! Back on to the long runs now??

Don't worry, just show it respect and at off nice and slow.

Go slow. Very slow!

I’ve just finished W5R3 and was looking forward to W6R1 maybe not any more! Well done you. Keep up the great work. It’s amazing some runs are easier than others and never as expected. Onwards and upwards

Just go very very slowly!

I was the same last week when I started week 6. It just felt slow and sluggish like I’d lost my flow. An extra rest day or so between the 2nd run and 3rd runs really helped me - just to get off the schedule for a day off. Early in the program I thought I might lose any fitness I’d gained by doing this but now I’m not so sure.

It got me to the point where I felt like I’d like to go for a run and then I went for it.

Run 3 was probably my favourite yet 🙂

It’s a sneaky one.

Sure is!

Lots of people struggle with this one. It is the longest you've run and I think it is going back to intervals.

Well done remember one run at a time and get round.

It's all part of c25k"s wicked plan to get you to be a better runner and sets you up for the next few weeks it works 😚

Hello, I ran W6R1 last night and both me and my running partner REALLY struggled! We also flew through W5R3. It’s so much a mental battle as well as a physical. I think the next run will be easier.... we’ll I hope! Well done on getting this far, let us know how you get on. I’m running Wed. 🏃‍♀️

Me too! Went too fast, and wore myself out in the first five minutes so had to slow right down! Ever onwards though

Glad seen this post. I was the same. W5 r3 did and surprised myself. W6 r1 bit of a struggle. Did guess is a build up to r3 tho...! Although anyone else get annoyed when the trainer tells you its one minute left? I like the halfway notices but on the 8 minute and second 5 min tells you 60 seconds to go...most depressing cut in ever lol as i automatically think 'oh am i done'

I had exactly the same thought - I think I even shouted out loud at Sarah Millican that she must be kidding! ;-)

Caught me out as well. I did this run on Monday thinking it was going to be easy but oh my gosh! How wrong was I!

I thought it was just me 🤓! I was so pleased when I'd completed 20 minutes and felt I could have carried on, and then really struggled with the same run in week 6! I must admit I lost my mojo and will probably need to repeat. Good luck 🐴.

I have this run tonight, I was looking forward to 5:3 because 6:1 seems the toughy.

My issue is going from walking to running takes a good few seconds to adjust to the impact so continuous running is more comfortable

I’m so glad it’s not just me! I loved the 20 min run but I’m struggling with 25. It’s crazy. In fact I skipped today’s run as I was worried about it!

Fairywhite profile image
FairywhiteGraduate in reply toRobinrun

Don’t skip it, just go an awful lot slower than you would normally. You can do it!

I had the same experience. Maybe it’s (yet again) a mental thing that have done a continuous run a run with wallks must be easier? The mind plays tricks. I’ve now found that when I have to stop for traffic, even for a few seconds it’s hard to get going again so I have found that I prefer slow continuous run easier than run&walk.

I found w6w2 easier (although I was dreading it) I hope you have the same experience.

Good luck 😀

Same here didn’t realise it was a “thing” till I read this. Was really disappointed with myself and contemplated redoing the week and was anxious about yesterday’s 25 minute run because of it. I think it lures you into a feeling of false security as after the 20 minute run you think you’ve smashed it and then set off a bit too quick in the next one and it’s a struggle. I allowed myself the option of cutting it short and repeating the whole of week 6 today if I couldn’t manage the whole 25 minutes but I just kept it steady and could have carried on when it finished. I do think it’s all about the speed you set off at

Fairywhite profile image
FairywhiteGraduate

Thanks everyone, glad it wasn’t just me who struggled! Good luck to everyone else and we’re still smashing it just by doing it!

I found exactly the same thing happened! Was very surprised!

I decided to repeat weeks 4 & 5 as I didn't feel ready to progress. Glad I did. Just finished wk6r2 it is hard though!

6:1 was definitely a toughie after the rather pleasant 5:3. I did 6:2 on Sunday and it was much better despite being in Wales with rather more hills than I'm used to! Slightly daunted by the 25 minute run I'm due to do today but I'll take it easy, play some motivational music and I'm sure it'll all be fine!

Well done on getting this far 😁

I found that too for some reason. I think possibly the break in between messes with my h headspace of wanting to push through but needs to slow down to walking pace. I actually found the next one hard but easier as it continuous again.

Happy moving!

Yep me too! Just completed W6R1 and it was hard work.

Fairywhite I've just completed W6R1 today and felt exactly the same! I thought it was going to be a dawdle after the 20min run (which I actually enjoyed as well) but OMG 😟 done it but my face was so red I could've stopped traffic!!! Can't wait to read the advise o here now.

Yeah. I found W6R1 and W6R2 tougher than expected. But these runs do a great job of preparing you for the remaining weeks. I found the remaining weeks quite easy as you find your running rhythm and start to enjoy the experience more!

Just completed week 6 run 2 and I’m pleased to say that it was a lot easier than the last run!! I started slower and just kept on going. I have to say it was the first run that I actually enjoyed!!! (It’s taken a while)
