Procrastination no more!

Well after 3 weeks of procrastination i.e. buying myself a lovely set of running gear (trainers, shorts, anorak etc etc) on the 2nd Jan 2019 and reading posts everyday on this forum about other new starters, but not actually doing anything myself, I finally did week 1, run 1 this morning... and to my surprise, I absolutely LOVED it! After being a lifelong (40+ years) avoider of running there I was at 6.00am running around my local area - albeit for just 8 mins in total. Still it's the start I needed. Bring on Wednesday, I think? Any tips for keeping the procrastination at bay going forward are welcomed.

Welcome and well done. It’s really just a case of planning when you’ll run and dragging your ass to the start line... in a little while the addiction will kick in and you’ll have the opposite issue of not running on rest days. Enjoy your journey.

Haha, I’ve only run twice n I’m already struggling with rest days. Is it too soon to be addicted??? 😂😂

It’s never too soon to be addicted! Welcome to the best addiction there is.

Keep it slow and follow the app instructions - tempting to fast-forward in the early runs but it’s not worth it - you need the stamina build these bring for the later weeks 😂

thanks DiverIzzie yeah, I felt that temptation this morning, thought I can do more/faster than this so thanks for that heads up

Starting is the hardest thing and you've done that! My tips are 1. Keep it slow and steady, all the time 2. Share you success with friends, family and especially on here, post after every run 3. Share the harder runs also (there's never fails on her) This community is great for advice, support and motivation, ALWAYS take your rest days, this is non negotiable however great you feel 4. Remember that when you finish this, and you will, that it is the first step to a long term healthier you. I've got loads more but I won't bore you. This programme is great and it works. Good luck!

Yes, don’t think about it and body permittig, run every other day (or on fixed days) so you don’t think about it and give yourself options to not do it! Enjoy 😊

Your amazing progress will be motivation - so get out the door and do it! You’ll be staggered by what you can achieve in a relatively short space of time. Good luck & keep posting!

I'm a world class procrastinator. I could tell you so many stories... but maybe another day (ha!).

What stops me doing that is

1) that I do Parkrun every Saturday with friends and so have to complete my second run of the week by Thursday and therefore my first run by Tuesday.

2) I've set my graduation date (9th March - my birthday weekend). I WILL graduate that day. And what that means is that I can't procrastinate and also I have to do everything to avoid illness or injury stopping me.

I wish you all the very best of success with the programme. :)
