Today's run: Cancelled :-(

So, I woke up this morning to the sound of the alarm clock at 5.25am and, in spite of the weather warning of ice on the roads and footpaths, I donned my running gear and headed out.

For about 20 yards.

Honestly, it was like an ice rink out there! Run was abandoned, and I was gutted. Apparently tomorrow will be the same so it's looking like Friday will be my next opportunity to tackle W4R3. I'm just hoping that by missing 3 consecutive days my progress won't be set back by too much. I was wondering that if I miss Friday and can't get another run in until, say, Monday, if I'll still be okay to carry on with the program or should I maybe repeat W4 before progressing. Does anyone have any experience of missing out on runs for any amount of time and how easy it is to get back into it. I'm so happy with my progress so far I'd hate to take a backwards step.

I had to have just over a week off after 7:1. I was maybe still poorly after the week as I knew early in the run that I couldn't complete 7:2. I turned it into 6:2 and took it from there. I was still further on than I had been 6 weeks prior 👍I was 2 weeks late graduating, but I still graduated so no harm done really. I decided that it didn't matter when as long as I did 🤗👩‍🎓. I'm on consolidation runs now but will have to miss today's run due to a muscle strain/ niggle. Work means I can't run until Monday, so another week off plan. These things happen you just have to roll with it sometimes

Hi driver08uk ...you did the right thing by abandoning your run...and risking injury dancing on ice style!! If you get a chance it might be worth considering a run early eve when the ice has gone?? Or just keeping your eye on the pavements over the weekend?? Ive been known to drive up and down the main road sussing it out before now!! If your next run isn't poss til Mon, I think you'll be ok...have a go and if it feels to hard just repeat the last run you did...fingers crossed it warms up a bit and the ice does one!!!

I find if I miss 2 days -if anything the next run is easier?!, maybe at 59.5 years my body needs the recuperation?

Have you considered a treadmill at the local gym? While running I then watch the tv with subtitles & listen music to the radio on my Bluetooth - the distractions seem to help me! Good luck

That is true for me too x I tend to run Monday and Wednesday and have 2 days rest before Saturday parkrun. The parkrun seems easier for the extra days rest

I had two weeks off over Christmas and just went straight back into it! I’d always say try to do it before going back. If you can’t do it, then go back!

Well done getting out there... even better making the decision to go back in!

An extra rest day or two won’t take any of your progress... if anything you’ll come back with fresher legs than normal and it’ll be more comfortable. Enjoy that run when it comes.
