Today's run was ... different

Morning all

I've been running for 30 mins three times a week for a couple of months now, all thanks to Laura and the podcasts. My enjoyment normally kicks in when I've finished the run and I get that sense of accomplishment.

Today's run was different. After settling into my stride, I realised that I was enjoying the run while I was actually doing it! I felt like I could've run for hours (unfortunately, that pesky thing called 'work' put paid to that idea!). I've analysed what I was doing differently to my previous runs and I'm certain that everything was the same: same treadmill, same speed, same trainers ... even the same music!!

This was a great boost after a dodgy run on Monday, and I'm already looking forward to doing it again on Friday.

Incidentally, there was a bloke who I hadn't seen at the gym before huffing and puffing at the machine next to me. I wanted to tell him to hang on in there and keep at it. I didn't though ... cos I was having too much of a good time! :-)

Have a great day, everyone.

That's great, and it might even been that gentleman huffing and puffing next to you that made it so. Sometimes we don't actually realise how far we have come until we see someone in the position that we used to be in. Well done and happy running.

Lovely that the enjoyment is kicking in now, and that will motivate you to keep at it. Happy running! x

I think I will ... although I'll be mindful how he might be feeling. I remember feeling slightly intimidated by the blokes who could get on the treadmill and run for what seemed like hours when I first started out with Laura! :-)

Hi there

Why not run right off that treadmill and out into the wide blue yonder. It's lovely out!

That's absolutely my plan. Slightly nervous about it, though. Keep telling myself: 'I'll do it next week'. :-/

So glad you enjoyed the run during the run! Have you thought of getting outside for your runs - I find the scenery, etc. really helps the enjoyment. I'm sure just a friendly smile to the new fella would be much appreciated, indeed, we've all been there, and return there sometimes! x

Really encouraging to read this - I only graduated last week and find the enjoyment is when I have finished and have that rosy feeling of achievement (and a rosy face as well). I'm hoping that in a couple of months I will be so used to running 30 minutes at a time that the final 5 minutes won't be such a slog!

I think that's a key step that we sometime forget, Kellywillow: reaching that 30-min run is one thing ... maintaining it is something entirely different!! :-)
