C25k on treadmill?

My_couch_can_wait profile image

Hi am now on week 7 and doing C25k solely on treadmill and finding these longer runs so much tougher mentally. Listen to music but it just isn’t cutting it the way it used to. Need to do it whilst kids are asleep so not got option if outdoor runs. Anyone else doing this on treadmill and how do you get through the longer runs?

Have you got a TV... you can watch Virtual Runs while the longer runs are being done...:)

I have been to some amazing places using them, on YouTube... ( I use my treadmill on icy days:)

They really help pass the time! Go you!

NIm not on a treadmill, but the longer runs do feel different - a bit more serious and, well, just longer.

The virtual run sounds great, and I am tempted to try these.

but also good to remember why you started, how far you've come and that you are officially a runner now. enjoy it. and lighter days will be here soon enough!

you could also try audiobooks or podcasts as running becomes more natural. I recommend

Born to Run by

on zaudibke. It's a brilliant book, that captures the sheer joy of ultra running and tells a great story... at week 7, we're almost there.

good luck!

Hi My_couch_can_wait

I did the whole program on the treadmill, and you're right, the long runs can feel like they're lasting an eternity. What helped me get through was having great music to listen to and mentally breaking the run down into small segments. I didn't think about running for half an hour. Instead I was doing 5 mins x 6. If I was really struggling, I'd slow down. You don't have to run at the same speed all the way ;)

I’ve done all c25k and also consolation runs on treadmill only just recently started to run outside. The only thing I can say is to cover your time up on the treadmill also try not to think to much about it just let your mind wander. I also listen to music.

Thanks guys, breaking up the run does help but very keen to try the virtual run. I have always gone for music rather than podcasts but maybe I should switch it up, thank you

Im almost onto week 7 and have done it all on the treadmill at the gym. It’s only as the runs got longer that I’ve started listening to music but I tend to just watch people coming and going about their daily lives! Quite often get school kids passing the windows as they arrive for school swimming and they wave at people on the treadmills. There’s a baby group held over the road so I’m seeing all the mums arriving with their babies. There’s a hairdressers too so always people coming and going which takes my mind off running! Also, sounds a bit vain but on darker days I get to see my reflection in the window and it makes me focus on my posture and it’s great seeing me actually running hahahahahaha!! 😂

I would recommend the Nike Run Club headspace and guided runs. Just download the app, select a run that matches the time you need to do and off you go. Coach Bennett chats away either on his own or with guests. Really takes you mind off the act of running.

I’m a podcast fan, even tho I run outdoors. Try Desert Island Disks - chat & a bit of music!

Thanks so much for your advice, it is such help during these tougher times
