Hi, I am turning 40 in a week and have not exercised for over 8 years. I work full time, have 2 kids and am single. But this is the year I take out time for myself. I did my second run today and am motivated to continue. Wish me luck.

Very best of luck. This programme is great. I found the 30 mins of running gives you a little bit of ‘me time’. A great birthday present to yourself.

Happy birthday! What a great present to give yourself 😁👍 the very best of luck 🤞🏻Make sure you keep it slow and comfortable for the whole 9 weeks. That’s what got me, as a total non-runner, through this and way beyond, since May last year. C25k can be just the start of a whole new world. Plenty of time for speed and distance after the 9 weeks.

If you want some no-pressure company outside of work, runners are wonderfully sociable people in the main. I started doing my R3 of the week at Parkrun (walking the rest of the way after my 30mins were up) which is free, and chatting with the volunteer organisers and club runners for tips. Some runners even push a buggy - even the fast ‘proper’ runners that can do a sub-20min 5k! There is also Junior Parkrun in some towns, 2km for the kids, which is free and very well marshalled so they don’t go astray. You can run it with them, or let them get on with it while you have a cuppa and a chat at the start/finish. Volunteers are always welcome at either.

Once you get used to running 3x a week you can have solo ‘me time’ runs on your own, group runs on your own terms, run with the kids, or without... lots of choice! Have fun!

Thank you so much for the info. I will definitely be looking into Parkrun. And only just today I was thinking how I can get the kids started. Your reply has come at the right time. Thank you.

Well done you. I started the programme last year and now graduated. I'm 56 and not exercised for absolute eons and still managed. You'll really enjoy it. Slow and steady

Good for you. I’m 46, single mum to 3 teens and I work full time. We need a break, this is a great thing to do for ourselves!! Good luck and let us know how you are getting on. There’s loads people supporting you here.
