Running shoe help.

I'm coming up for week 4 and I'm following all the recommendations about not buying running shoe's until around then. I've been looking at running shoe's but am confused as to what brand is better than the other. How do you choose? HELP

Hi BB

You best course would be to go to a running store for a gait analysis, so they can assess your pronation to see how you place your foot so your shoe supports your foot correctly.... well done for waiting 4 weeks after a week I knew running in trainers was a Nono and took a leap of faith I would continue running and bought running shoes🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Brands are all pretty much equal... running brands that is. The issue isn’t what brand, it’s what type of shoe for your feet... and the best way of working that out is to go to a specialist running store and go through gait analysis. There will be a few questions followed by a short (1 minute or so) treadmill run where they will video your lower legs. Footfall, expected mileage, gender, injury history and weight (they should guesstimate this rather than ask 😂) all combine and then they should have several suitable pairs to choose from. You should get to have a go on the treadmill again and the right pair is then the most comfortable ones! Don’t forget when you go to take your current running shoes and dress to run. Also going later in the day is advantageous as your feet will be bigger, so check opening times and hit them in the last hour... unless you work nights, then get there as they open!

I went to a sports shop and found someone really helpful who made me run up and down to see how I ran before getting me to try anything on. Highly recommend it! It was also there that I first heard about Couchto 5K

Another vote for visiting a shop and taking your time with an expert. Colour, brand are irrelevant once you find the best fit for your feet. I went to Run and Become and they were terrific. Enjoy your shopping!

Emphasis on “running” shop. Not a general sports shop

Staff in running shops are runners too and know their subject. Don’t be afraid to ask for last year’s models as they’re cheaper

My first run shoes were from Sportsdirect and they were brill right out the box, fortunately. I did try them on a got a half size bigger than my normal shoes. They were karrimor Tempo trail. I got another pair for the Road a bit later as a gift from my OH. I was short of cash so got what I could afford. If you can afford it do the gait thing and get properly sorted 👍🙂

As above. I bought mine before my first run as an incentive to use them :-) The shop owner looked at how I stood, moved etc and we tried several pairs. The ones I bought felt right immediately. Luckily the colours were ok and not the weird colours that some brands do for lady runners, unlucky they were not cheap. However I do not regret it for a second they are fantastic, very padded and supportive.

Good luck Cinderella! Looking forward to photos :-)
