Hi guys,

I'm starting at the weekend, and wondering if it's ok to let my 6 year old join me? She's very active and really wants to join in?

Thoughts?

Thanks :)

Think that would be lovely! Will be interesting to see if she sticks to it, and who will be the motivator. Although it is nice to run with just your own thoughts I find...

Honestly, I think she will be the motivator. If she enjoys it, I'd like to think it will become our thing to do together. Thanks for replying!

That’s good, let us know how it goes! Also perhaps you could be plugged into the app with just one earphone in so you can tell her when to start and stop.

Duh me, I didn't even think of that. Not sure how I was getting around that..

We're close but I don't think we could manage telepathy.😂

No reason not to. We have many under 10s at parkrun, some are super fast too! If she enjoys it there’s junior parkrun if there’s one close to you, Sunday’s 9am 2k runs. The elite athletes we cheer on at the olympics all tend to have started running at a very early age.

It’s also gonna be a great bonding experience... enjoy.

If you need different paces... find a circuit and run opposite directions, high five when you pass each other... I do this around football fields with my 12 year old girl.

We do live near a park run, 15 minutes in the car. I'd love to think it's something to work towards. Great idea about opposite circuits - the pace question was already niggling. I'm excited! Thanks :)

You’ll love parkrun... it’s so supportive... and there’s no need to wait until you can run 5k, they love everyone from walkers to gold medalists... lots run/walk it, so get a few sessions or weeks under your belts then why not have a go. The only rule they have with under 11s is that they must run with an adult at all times, so you’d have to run at the slower of your two paces.

Enjoy your running journey.

That's a great idea as you will be able to spur each other on 😊
