Going off programme?

Due to work and babysitting commitments and the fact that we have no street lights in my village I am only able to run safely once a week. After only just managing the 20min run In week 5, and not running for 6 days I decided to just run for as long as I could on Sunday rather than risk not completing W6r1. But I suprised myself by running for around 23 minutes. It was off road with a couple of gentle slopes (in Norfolk these count as hills) rather than the flat roads I ran W5R3. This gave me confidence to continue with the programme albeit only one run a week. I have day off work tomorrow so am going to tackle W6r1

Well done for completing run 3 of week 5, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs. Pity that there are no street lights in the village where you live.

I trust Father Christmas is bringing you a head torch.

The description of 'weeks' is a little problematic as it does make people think the programme progresses in calendar weeks when that's not the key point.

Don't doubt yourself, don't doubt the programme... many of us (have we done a survey on this one?) take longer than 9 weeks for various reasons, it's the progression of the runs and the insistence on not running on consecutive days that does the magic.

Norwich has some steep slopes, I find, Krt! Needing an extra rest day after my last route!

Hey it took me months to get to week nine...I did join a beginners group in the summer (the first weeks were easy as i had already got half way) and that was incentive to push ahead ...maybe think about joining a local group in the spring? Or parkrun? In meantime do what you can.

Your journey is on your timescale, no worries there. Well done getting to week 6... slow and steady and you’ll be just fine.
