Keeping going

Hi,

It’s been a while since I graduated now. Been managing to keep my running up this year. At the start of the year I gave myself a challenge to run 500 miles in the year. End of last month I completed that. Since then I am struggling with being motivated. I have signed up for a half marathon in September next year to try and keep up motivation. My runs vary from 5 km 2 x a week and one 10 km. Have also just been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma. Think it’s all in my head as I know I can do these runs although none of them get any easier.

Well done beating your challenge... and signing up for the HM, goals are the way to keep motivated. If I was in your shoes I’d schedule when to start my HM plan and then find a target for just before the start date and build/find a plan to get to that... maybe 15k?

Im so lucky that me friend is a ex triathlon athlete. She could out run me any day but has been very patient when she runs with me. We are doing three runs a week as maintance runs with circuit training twice a week too over winter. Come March/April time she says she will step up the distance gradually until we are running half marathon distance twice a month, she can do that distance no problem. It all scares the hell out of me if I’m honest and yesterday I was trying to think of every excuse under the sun to not run in the cold. Always feel better after the run but hate the start and middle. Does it get any easier.

I always feared 5k... now I love it. My 5k plan peaks at 10 miles, and I can’t wait for that run. Way back when I ran 3k fast and yeah, training got easier... race day was always eyeballs out stuff, but I don’t intend to run far that way these days.

Anything you do gets easier... so the HM will be tough, but getting there will make 10k easy! Think that applies all the way up to marathon... then my mate says ultras are easier... I remain ready for convincing on that one.
