Run everyday December

I read Souly47's post on her December challenge and I'm in! I've been using uni as an excuse for my lack of running lately. I went for a run this evening and I feel good about this month! Not hung up on running every single day but getting a solid jog in most days is my goal. Hoping to comfortably run 5k by the end of the year.

Is it wise to run every day as a recent graduate? I do want to keep the running going, and increase my distance a bit ( not bothered about speed currently) but having only graduated a few weeks ago I don't feel running every day would be a good thing for me, the rest ( I think they should be called recovery days) days are as important as the running.

I can't give a professional opinion, but if it becomes too much there is no shame in skipping a day or two. Also, you can switch up how long you run each day, maybe on some days do a light jog so as not to put on too much strain. My goal is to get better at my 30 min runs and this challenge is all about improvement so I say go for it!

My speed is always a light jog.

It’s not recommended to skip rest days until you’ve been running for around a year, and even then it’s not recommended to run every day. This is because the muscle conditioning takes a long time to complete, maybe 2 years or more.

A muscle injury can happen in less than a pace and can keep you out for months, so it’s not enough to just see how you’re feeling daily.

I’ve said many times that I was always told to add distance or pace in a run but not both. That’s the part of a standard running guideline that is actually more comprehensive than that for established runners and states that on any given week we could go for pace, distance, or an extra running day... so to go from 15k a week 3 days to 35k a week 7 days would smash this guideline and also the 10% rule. You’d have to run less than 2k a day to do it sensibly even after reaching full running conditioning. This would lose your endurance and you’d have to slowly go back up the distances.

It’s your call, but is a “challenge” worth having to start all over again in the spring/summer for? I personally don’t think that it is.

Oh I didn't know about this, this challenge seems pretty popular, need to reconsider now

It’s very popular, it’s just not for beginners! Take care out there and take this challenge on in the future!
