Graduation Day - feeling well chuffed !

I’ve only gone and done it ! Graduation day for me with my Week 9, run 3 spent doing the Hereford Park Run. I can’t believe that I managed to run the whole 5K distance with a time of 30.56 minutes and I feel amazing and can’t stop smiling. Even my kids are impressed with Mum and that takes some doing 😂 I am going to aim to continue doing three runs a week of about 30 minutes, and make the Park Run part of my routine. I’m actually enjoying it now which is a bonus. If anyone is starting on the Couch to 5K programme and having doubts about achieving it I can only advise you to give it a go and stay positive. It’s as much a mental challenge as a physical one. I have never run this distance in my life, never enjoyed running and I am now 52 yrs so if I can do it you can do it 🏃‍♀️🏆🏃‍♀️

Well done - I’m a few weeks behind you and a few years older but you’ve inspired me to keep going. I need to strengthen myself up for the great outdoors as I’ve taken to the treadmill after week3 as my hips were taking a pounding.

Well done - keep grinning

Well done on what you have achieved so far. I have tried running on a treadmill before but have found it quite boring and that all I was doing was watching the clock. I have completed C25K by running outside and found it much better due to not having a clock to watch and the general distractions of what is around you. Good luck for the rest of your journey on C25K.

It is boring - tried outside today but stupidly after a night out, so only managed 10mins - I will continue on treadmill and give it another go another day. Go Us 👏🏻👏🏻

Re ‘hips taking a pounding’ could that be a footwear issue? Start of week 4 is where most people find it’s time to get their gait analysed at a specialist running shop. I myself had to do it in week 2 or I’d have stopped, but then my previous trainers were especially unsuitable. In my case it was my knees that were getting hammered and it turned out my gait was neutral but I did need extra cushioning. Unbelievable difference!

I was under physio with hips prior to starting up so I don’t think so, nothing ‘hurts’ when I run now; so I am treating myself to new properly analysed trainers for my graduation/56th Birthday (next month). My trainers are quite old but a good make (and certainly not worn out!)

Doesn’t really matter if they’re a good make if they’re designed for somebody else’s running style :) But if you’re seeing a physio then presumably you’re already getting the best advice about your running from him/her.

That's amazing, congrats! I'm just about to start W8 and at a 49.5 yrs young, overweight and never run before I didn't think I'd get this far. You've inspired and motivated me, and I hope I do enjoy it as much as you clearly are after my W9 is done.

Well done. You are nearly there. I found the last two weeks OK as there were only tiny increases in the times. I kept telling myself I’ve run 25 minutes in week 7 so 3 more minutes are definitely achievable, and then it is only a 2 minute increase for the last week. It was more of a mental challenge for me at this stage, I was always nervous on the first run of the week, but on the other two I kept telling myself I’ve already achieved that time on the first run of the week so I can do it again. Good luck for your last 2 weeks to get to Graduation.
