After last Monday's run where i had to walk twice.. last Thursday i met with our local club and we ran splits around our local park run, and yesterday i headed out on my own and completed 5k in 35mn 40sec, no stoppping, felt a bit more upbeat as Monday's run made me feel like i couldn't do it, if i get out there 3 times a week will my time improve ? my aim is to stay at 5k for now until i feel a bit easier doing the distance but i cannot see me finishing 5k in less that 35 mins ever... i am only 5 foot so feel i am at a disadvantage as i have short legs :)

I just graduated and I can only dream of that time! I also plan to get to 5K and stick there for some time to consolidate. At my current pace, 5K will take me around 39 minutes and I'm a bit taller than you.

I think as newbies we should focus on just completing rather than time, i think it adds too much stress, i am doing this for exercise and enjoyment i do not want to compete, i plan to do my first park run Saturday ... eeek :)

I'm in the exact same boat. I graduated on the 22nd of June and also joined a running club. My Parkrun PB is 32:07, and that has come down from 39:14. My goal at the moment is also to be comfortable with running 5k and be able to run 5k in under 30 mins. You will get faster over time, I know for me it will be slow, even if I just shave a few seconds off the time each week I'll be happy. The challenge of trying to achieve this keeps me motivated to get out and run 3 times a week. Just keep running.

You will get quicker in time, just don't push too hard every run. It's accepted that most training runs should be at an 'easy' pace to build aerobic fitness. Save your fast attempts for Parkrun - if every run is a hard run, you'll quickly get dispirited, or worse, injured. There's no great rush; running is for life, not for the next few weeks. :)

Just run...consolidate the thirty minutes..however far they take you.. do a slow short run and some slow longer, take your time and enjoy :)
