I am interested to hear fellow runners experiences after a week off,
It was my 6 month anniversary yesterday of the start of C25K, since completing it in August (I can’t say graduating as someone will shout at me for having no badge ;( )
I have run 3 times a week since, building distance, I am currently doing 20- 25 k a week with 9.5K my longest run, my speed has improved slowly but steadily,
The last few runs my calves have been really stiff, I experienced this during the programme but better planned nutrician seemed to cure it, I did a slow 5 k on Thursday but was no better, I was on a bit of a downer, but on completion I noticed my breathing was hardly laboured,do my legs just need a rest ?
I am off to my 8th park run shortly , which includes a 1,5 k slow run up the canal toe path there and back, where I am going to measure cadence with my stop watch, last time I checked it was 160 ?
I am off to the canaries next week for a bit of winter sun, so thought a good time to take a break

You have been enjoying your running.. and doing it steadily..listening to your body....
There is much recorded evidence of the benefits of a significant rest from running...one benefit being, that you really appreciate the running when you return!
I inadvertently lost a week by injuring a foot in my sleep - no, I don’t know how either ! I found I came back stronger and had my best week so far straight afterwards. Enjoy your time away, take your running shoes so you can run if you do feel like it, don’t feel guilty if you can’t be bothered, and come back refreshed x
In the guide to post C25K running healthunlocked.com/couchto5... I recommend that taking a total break from running every few months will likely be beneficial.
Many of my PBS over the years have come after a break
A holiday in the warm sounds fab. You could do some swimming 💪
You might feel like a jog too, to takes in the sights. A change is as good as a rest
Have a lovely time 🙂
I had an enforced week off with man flu almost immediately after graduating and I managed 5k's when I returned to running so I would imagine that with all your miles in the tank that you'll have no problem. Some winter sun sounds great. Who knows? You might even pack your running shoes to take on holidays..?
Thanks, I think the rest is the way forward and my old st ready for it.
it’s my first packaged holiday for about fifteen years, such luxury, transfers and 20kg luggage allowance I should find room for my running gear, l am thinking of doing no training, I have been Lane swimming once a week for a year and that’s resulted in blocked ears,a month to get a syringing appointment tempted to do just 1 slow run to register on strava as a holiday souvenir shoes might stand out though with the ingrained mud
