so today was the day for my quicker 5K having done a more comfortable one on Thursday.
the problem was on this one that i definitely set off too quick .
a made a conscious effort to ease off within the first k or else i knew i wouldn't be able to maintain it .
the first 3 k were a good pace but i certainly needed to slow it down a bit for the last 2 to complete the run .
its difficult to find the right pace at the start .
i have managed it previously and even finished on negative splits, but not today .
so, although i am happy to achieve my 5K PB of 32:25, i am not happy with how i did it !
i need to get my start pace better and then a gentle squeeze on the gas towards the end !
something else to work on for the future runs !

Just think... what's possible?? 😉

haha, i'll be happy to get the sub 30 min 5K 😊

Even though you're not happy with the way you did it, you ran a pretty fast 5k. Hope you enjoyed it, even if you feel you need to work on your pace. Pacing is tricky!

Thank you !
and yes, i enjoyed it so i guess that's the most important thing 🙂

Congratulations on the PB!
Crack that pacing, which I am sure you will, and I reckon that sub 30 5k is inevitable 👍
You have to be happy about that! 😁

It was a mixed feelings run to be honest !
I'm annoyed with myself for making such a mistake !
I will work out what my pacing needs to be before hand from now on , well, on the faster runs anyway !

Shows how much you want to improve though.
There are web sites that can work out pacing and stuff aren't there? And depending on how fancy your watch is some come with a "pacing assistant" .
I've no real idea how that works and is way over my head at the moment but
Maybe something for the Christmas present list? 😉

Haha, I'm happy with my watch , it dosent have pacing assist (as far as I know)
But I can figure it out myself 😁

Congratulations on your run and that's a cracking time too👍😁🏃

Many thanks , but I'm annoyed I set off too fast !

To me this is brilliant 👍 well done for 5K PB 👏👏👏.
It is difficult to judge at the start !!! I kept looking at my HR every 2 minutes 😂😂😂

Thank you ! 👍
I look at my pace not my heart rate.
I just use my breathing and perceived effort to judge my HR zone as none of the calculations seem accurate to me, my exhaustion HR is significantly higher than any of the calculated figures .

Great run and PB. 👏👏Completely agree re heart rates etc. I always start too fast and not so sure that will ever change.

I do try , but when you start you gave nothing to compare it with for a while 😂

Well done on your PB Instructor57, great result, as for the pace, it’s easier said than done, but you’re on it 🏃♂️
Reply (1)Report
thanks, i have managed negative splits on a couple of runs , but not this one ! haha
Reply (0)Report
I know it’s been referred to quite a few times but what is a negative split? 🤔😁
Reply (0)Report
When you run faster splits at the end of your run than you do at the beginning.
Saving your fuel until you know your not going to burn out 😁
Reply (1)Report
Ah thanks, I see, that sounds very positive, rather than a ‘negative’ split 🤣

Yes, good point 😂

Well done for your 5K, Ian, and a PB, too!
I completely understand your disappointment about setting off too fast - I did the same thing on Thursday for my 4 K run! I think that it will be easier to judge with a bit more experience. We’ll get there!
For now, celebrate that you did have a PB today and you are getting closer to a sub 30 minute 5K! Well done 👏👏👏👍

Thanks jools 👍
i'll submit it to my local virtual parkrun 😬

Well done on your PB! 👏👍😀
Negative splits always look nice...but it's the overall time that we remember, especially if it's a PB! 🙂
