I had a really difficult run today on W6R2. Stitches straight from the off finishing with a pain in my chest. I’ve not had any problems in the past even running the 20mins last week I was fine. Plus I’m getting slower ...I thought I was meant to be improving! Felling less than happy with myself today and dreading R3 now 😞

Feeling unmotivated
See my post about being grumpy earlier today - I am feeling exactly the same! I feel like I'm going backwards too! I had lot of great advice though, and as was said to me, at least you are still making yourself go out there and you're getting the runs done, which is fantastic! I'm sure it will pass, and don't dwell on it too much otherwise you WILL scupper the next run. Put it behind you, go out next time with a positive outlook and I predict that you will feel a lot better! :o)
Hey Anna, everyone has tough runs, they come at unexpected times. But you did your run and you are well prepared for your next one. You are improving, you couldn't do what you are doing now just a few weeks ago. Keep it slow and steady, don't expect too much from run to run and before you know you'll be graduating!
I'm pretty close to where you are week wise. I just got back from W6R3 and I must admit, I feel like I'm getting slower. I'm almost certain I couldn't complete a 25 min run if I ran at my normal faster pace.
HOWEVER, I've read a lot on here that it's not about speed, that will come in time when we all find the right pace for us.
As for the stitches, make sure you're properly hydrated. And not running too fast. It's always said on this forum but go SLOW. I make sure I drink plenty of water the hour before I run. (Needless to say make sure you go to toilet before you run as nothing kills a run like being desperate for a wee)
Always keep in mind, that 6 weeks ago you probably couldn't even run for 5 mins without gasping for air and aching all over. So don't worry, you are getting fitter. Run at your own pace.
If I felt a serious chest pain I would always get it checked out. That said, one thing I am still learning is that activity on the day between runs is important. There are lots of exercises for runners on the web. The way I see it is that the further you run, the stronger/more flexible you need to be, but you don’t get that strength and flexibility solely from running. Also each run you do takes more out of your legs with increasing distance. So feeling tired some days after your 20 min run isn’t a big surprise. On top of all that we have good days and not so good days. Latter are best forgotten ASAP. You are doing brilliantly and will probably nail your next run👊
Thanks everyone! That’s what I like about this page you can always be counted on to turn a negative into a positive! I know i shouldn’t expect every run to go well I need to manage my expectations better 😁
