Feeling so guilty ...

.... that I have missed a day out of my every other day routine. I had to wait in for a delivery that never turned up so I have to make up for it today but I just hope that I haven't had a set back. Some people tell me that if you miss a week's training it is like missing a month's training and you are back to square one! I am wondering if I should do week 4 run 1 and week 4 run 2 today? I suspect that would be a silly idea. What do you think?

Mad idea. It won't make any difference at all. No need to be so rigid. Just do it when you can! People talk a lot of c**p!!!

Thanks for that ...... I think ;-). I actually missed doing it though so will try even harder today for make up for it - that's just my mindset and I'm sure some folk do talk a load of c*&p, though not on here I feel - everyone's wonderful and so supportive, including your good self useitorloseit x

Ha ha sorry I have mislaid the polite gene it seems this morning ... haven't been out for my run yet! What I should've said is carry on as usual you'll be fine. I often run much better after an extra rest day or three!

Thanks for that. However, I wasn't offended, don't worry! I will try not to feel guilty (but I do feel like a bit of a slob but that is just in my genetic makeup). ☺

And I meant the other people had been misleading you, not that you were talking c**p! I will go and take my medication now! Been for my run and feeling chilled and polite once more. :)

Did not see your user name when I wrote my piece so hope you don't think the "use it or lose it" referred to you :)

Go and do the run. Enjoy. Dont do two runs together, its really not a good idea. It sounds like you have just missed a day, ie an extra rest day. I suspect therefore you will have a great run!

Thanks for that jack-W - I'm sure you're right

lol, I had to have three rest days thanks to a three day tequila hangover. I just went ahead and did the next run without having to go back and repeat anything.

One run at a time.

toria36 profile image

Blimey - hope you had a good time?!!!! Thanks for your support - you're right, as everyone on here is - one run at a time, trouble with me is I'm impatient and want to achieve things last week, that's my biggest downfall!!

Carolinemcd profile image
CarolinemcdGraduate in reply to toria36

Yup, know that feeling. I want to be an expert in something before I even try it. This program and this place have taught me to calm down and let it happen, it's liberating I tell you. Best of luck with your next run.

Thanks - hoping to go out shortly, waiting for my new 'toy' to be delivered though - exciting .....

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-JGraduate in reply to toria36

Thats a running toy right????? Let us know how your run goes..... dont get too excited and start off way too fast 😀👍🏼

toria36 profile image
toria36 in reply to Millsie-J

No, it's not a running toy, it is a telephoney toy! I will certainly report back and tell you how I got on - I am now on week 4 Run 1!

toria36 profile image
toria36 in reply to Millsie-J

...... and there is no danger of me going too fast, I don't do fast! 😁

I get the same feeling, I also want to do 1 run per 2 days, and now that I've got some holidays coming up I'm trying super hard to fit those runs into my schedule but it looks like I'll have to have 1 run per 3 days sometimes... And actually I'm making things extra hard for myself because I haven't told ANYONE that I'm doing C25k!

toria36 profile image
toria36 in reply to resolution

So glad I'm not alone Resolution. May I ask why you haven't told anyone that you are doing the c25k - feel free of course to tell me to mind my own business!

resolution profile image
resolutionGraduate in reply to toria36

Of course you can ask!

I'm not a 100% sure to be honest, but I think I feel that if I tell my super supportive parents and partner and sister and friends that I've starting this programme, I would be overloaded with praise from them. Not that that's a bad thing, but I started running because I'm trying to get my own appreciation for myself and my body back. So if I'm the only one giving myself compliments (and I make a point of doing this during and after each run), then my compliments to myself are the most valuable ones, and it's actually myself that sustains my motivation, which in the end is a much stronger drive than motivation acquired externally. Does it make sense? I'm not sure if I'm rambling or not!

toria36 profile image
toria36 in reply to resolution

Of course it makes sense, though you do deserve so much praise for doing this - i think we all do. As you say, compliments to yourself are the most important ones, completely understand that and no, you're not rambling - you speak a lot of sense 😃

Just watching Mind over Marathon now to give me some inspiration - I can see my blubbing like a baby - people are soooooooooooo fantastic :-)

As the others say... nonsense... goodness, we would all be in trouble if that was true!

Carry on.... no problem!

Well, I was right, watching Mind over Marathon and blubbing already - so sad but so inspiring - some amazing people out there and really is spurring me on.

So, just completed W4R1 - can't believe i did it. The first 4 minute run was hard but the second a little easier - perhaps because I slowed down a little, either way, I'm so proud, but knackered and sweaty .... eeeooooouuuu, sorry, shouldn't perhaps have shared that last snippet!!

Well done!

I'm finishing W3 tomorrow, so W4 is right around the corner. Hope I handle it as well as you do!

Hahaha, what nonsense. Fitness is not made in one session or lost in one missed one, just as one healthy or skipped meal will not make you slim and one cheat meal will not make you fat. It is the slow accretion of hundreds and thousands of runs and workouts and meals and so on. It is about habits for life. Sometimes circumstance or injury keeps us from our workouts for weeks at a time but we don't lose all our Gainz overnight.

I would just pick up a normal routine from where you left off. Ditch the guilt!

I know what you're feeling. Good to keep consistent but I'm taking one more rest day for my first 25 minute run. I don't feel quite ready.

Just go out when you can - sometimes I have 2 or 3 or even more rest days. Depends on how you are. I am currently injured so won't run for a week but doesn't mean I will be back to square one. Pick up the program where you left off & follow it through, you will be fine x

I missed the entire month of January, only started running last June and profoundly unfit. I ran a comfortable 5k first day back.

I think you lose SOME progress/fitness but get it back far more quickly than from scratch. I hadn't run more than a hundred yards in my life (screwed up feet) before June last so I think this "use it or lose it" tends to be over exaggerated, especially at our non-olympian level :)
