Really enjoyed running this morning. Still getting twinges and aches and pains in knees and calves but the ice pack is my new best friend. Looking forward to wk5 now and am thinking I might do my 1st parkrun on Saturday but running it as a wk5 run. This running lark is addictive it's true

Hi Dave, just wondering, have you got proper running shoes or are you in normal trainers? I ask because I was saddled with ice packs on my knees for two weeks befor I went for a gait analysis and got supportive shoes. I’m concerned that you are experiencing pain after every run and that’s not ideal for keeping you motivated in the long run. I always thought that running just hurt, I’ve since learned otherwise though. If you are stretching well and have the right shoes then it may be worth talking to a physio. But yes ice helps a lot in the interim.

Thanks for the concern jiggles7 I've had a gait analysis done and bought a very comfortable pair of proper running shoes. I've got long standing issues with my knees diagnosed as arthritis. So it's something I've got to manage. I probably should stick to cycling and leave running alone but I want to give it a go. My plan is to try to build up to run a 10k with my 33 year old son by next Sept. I'm 57 so once I've done that I will try to run maybe once a week and continue cycling at the same time.
