Stay safe out there !

Last night, driving into a busy town in the dusk, I was one of a string of drivers who had to swerve suddenly into the path of oncoming cars to avoid hitting a jogger. Not only had he chosen to run on a road which is always heavily used and has no pavement, he had chosen to do it at the busiest time of day, in poor light and poor weather. To crown it all, he was dressed in grey from head to feet ! I’m sure he wasn’t on this forum or he’d have had more sense. Please, people, run sensibly, stay off road or go garish ! We don’t want to lose any of you ! 😟

No pavement though 🤷‍♀️ We have Miles of roads near me with no pavement. Why build a road without one. It gets my goat We have a prime example of one near me. The kerbs were laid on both sides but never surfaced, to save money. A road goes from A to B, taking people to and from. A huge assumption that no-one will be on foot 🤷‍♀️ Our local authority - about ten years in - has had to finally put the pavements in, mostly down to public pressure. The local half marathon has been a positive influence as has the cycle fraternity. Power to the people 💪😃👍

No excuse for wearing the wrong outfit though. Dead stupid! You’d want to ve visible from space wouldn’t you 🤷‍♀️ Mind you I have been out several times lit up like a downtown Christmas tree but have had to stop for drivers turning directly in front of me because they were studying sat navs! Eek 😬

Yeah, be careful out there peeps See and be seen!

We have miles of roads without pavements too... but they were all around in some form since before the car. I really don’t get the logic of building new roads without, councils need us to survive so we can keep paying them! Our town did have lovely new paving stones at not too small expense a few years ago, and first hint of rain and it was like an ice rink... few injuries and up they come again. Could have just left it alone and paved somewhere that needed doing.

A very pertinent post. I live in the countryside and it amazes me the number of runners I see who a) are dressed in black or dark colours and b) run on the wrong side of the road with the traffic behind them and c) run with earplugs in so they can't hear said traffic coming up behind them on narrow, bending country roads. Honestly! What is it with some people?

Thanks for posting.

I ran on a country road with no pavement for quite a stretch recently Cars flying along You have to switch sides for bends and generally have eyes up your bottom I wouldn’t have done it in the dark. No chance.!

The road was from the town into the country so in this case I can’t blame the council for not laying a pavement 😄

Good post Buttercupkid.

I saw one similar last night.

I run mainly on unpaved lanes, I found the constant up and down kerbs was causing me some issues. However I wear flashing arm bands, a very bright headlamp, and run towards the oncoming traffic, then fling myself into the hedges when the buggers aim for me!

Good work Jell6 ! Hope you don’t pick up too many thorns !

I was on Tower Bridge a few weeks ago and watched a runner make his way down the middle into the path of oncoming cars. By middle I mean right in the centre of the lanes of traffic. I know it's a busy footpath but, seriously, such a foolhardy thing to do.
