Back out there!

Hey runners and happy new year,

I managed to get back outside for a run today. Still not a fan of running on a treadmill - 20 minute runs were the most I could tolerate, so loved being back outside today, but it wasn't without challenges!

My usual running trails were still a bit flooded but this time iced over. I've never really encountered thick ice before - its really slippery! - so I had to walk over some icy bits or end up on my backside.

I took my son's car in to the garage today - MOT and service - and of course they decided to ring while I was running with a shopping list of things wrong that need fixing ☹️💸 I had to walk while I took the call - my heart rate probably went up at that point anyway though with the anxiety of how much it was going to cost!

Also I tried the Nike Running Club app today. I selected the easy 25 minute run as my first one. I enjoyed it - although couch Bennett talks A LOT! Are there runs where he doesn't bang on quite so much? And can you get a reminder that you're half way (today's run I wanted to turn back at the 12.5 minute mark)? Any advice appreciated from those of you that use it.

So just under 3.5k, at an easy pace, with a couple of interruptions, but I enjoyed it and loved being back outside. Hopefully the first of many in 2025.

SD

Well don't getting out .That is a beautiful photo, although cold looking Some of the other coaches talk less, might be worth having a look through and listen to see which ones you prefer.

You do get used to him & his chit chat & on some he talks less but there are many different coaches and runs to choose from..the ones where he has a guest are often quite good! 😊

To answer your timing question…NRC tend to be more laid back about telling you that you’re halfway through the run, so I set the alarm on my phone. I also use my phone alarm for my 5 minute warm up walk 😊

Nicely done - getting out there in this weather. That picture looks quite formidable.

I now enjoy CB's schtick but he does take some getting used to. There are lots of runs to choose from and I think you can turn off the 'guided' option some of the time/most of the time (?). Its been a while for me...
