Finding your rhythm?

I can't run with music, as i judge the time ive run by the length of the track and that just depresses me on the longer runs but i do have a podcast in my ears. As I've no time reference I focus on the person talking so the run goes much quicker. How do I regulate my pace when running outside?

When I run on the treadmill it's obviously easy to do and the 25 min runs are achievable but boring!

How do I regulate pace without music?

Any thoughts much appreciated :)

Good question! I have issues going on a treadmill!

You pretty much know your cadence though, so I’d try and keep that the same, shorten the stride at first though as it is different. It’s all a bit of trial and error, and may take a run or two before you find where “comfortable” is.

Short strides up and down any hills too!

I find it with my breathing.

When you can run with an easy slow breath in and then out

Music can drown that out and that's where talky podcasts help.

Or, download an easy-read audiobook from your local library. 📖

I cannot run with music, but just seem to have settled into my natural pace. I did try it once but not for me, I just use my breathing.

Tried a running metronome Jogunlikely? It’s not something I’ve tried, just read about it. Hopefully you’ll find your own natural pace soon enough👍🏻

Good idea. Just looked and I have an app for that on my phone 👍 I'm on the treadmill tonight so will identify my rhythm there and try to replicate when outside on Friday. Watch this space 🤗

Well done for making the break to outside!

I tend to listen to audiobook now and I just do what feels comfortable leg and breathing wise and don’t get too caught up in the rest until I have a cursory look at my running app after...then is oooh I ran a bit further/bit faster/slower today.

Hi jiggles I'm an outside advocate but due to work wk6 onwards has mainly been dreadmill :( then going back outside I was all over the place. Couldn't seem to get my breath couldn't slow down and stay slowed down. The stats were up and down like a yoyo 🤷‍♀️

Back on the treadmill tonight. boo but I'm going to try Unfitnomore nike coach run thingy on Friday :) then I'll give an audio book a go. Reading has a rhythm so that may help x
