C25k newbie

Hi fellow C25k peeps. Noticed the link at the bottom of the C25k app to this site after my W4R1 run this morning. Have to confess that I struggled a bit and slowed down noticibly towards the end. Made it to the end though. Having taken Sarah Millicans advice to avoid "bouncy" runs, I felt my "run" was more like a series of fast walking steps which felt harder on my calves than my attempt at runnung. Would welcome your thoughts on technique as I have never run before. I have lost over 5.5 stone in weight (over the last 1.5 years) and need to increase my fitness. Have been inspired by you all, what massive effort its been. I hope to follow in your footsteps with your guidance.

I found this forum even later than that, it certainly would have made things a lot easier if I'd found it earlier. As for your running, "anything that is not walking is running" - I can't tell you anything about technique, at this stage the important thing is just to keep moving.

Well done losing all that weight!

As long as you can complete the runs then that’s the most important thing. If you’re finding going faster easier then do that but don’t tire yourself out early on. I can’t tell you about technique but I can vouch for rhythm and when you find your rhythm all the runs will be comfortable to complete!

Ps isn’t Sarah great 😊! Keep going 😁 x

I completed Wk4 Day 1 this week too. I also find that I get aches in the lower legs sometimes but my wife who was a Run England coach tells me it's because I'm running "from your knees" ie not from my hips. I found if I opened my stride a little it solved the problem. Best of luck

Thanks Smuj. Great advice.

This is one of my old posts. I have now completed C25k having found my stride. Its something that came naturally after building up to the longer runs. Good luck with your runs matey!
